Liikuntatieteellinen tiedekunta, Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopisto, terveyskasvatuksen pro gradu -tutkielma, 46 s., 8 liitett\u00e4. \n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 vanhempien sosioekonomisen aseman ja asuinpaikan yhteyksi\u00e4 7.- ja 9.-luokkalaisten suomalaisten tytt\u00f6jen ja poikien ruokailutottumuksiin. Asuinpaikan suhteen selvitettiin onko maaseudulla ja kaupungissa asuvien nuorten kesken eroja ruokailutottumuksissa sek\u00e4 onko maantieteellinen asuinpaikka (p\u00e4\u00e4kaupunkiseutu, Etel\u00e4-Suomi, Keski-Suomi, Pohjois-Suomi) yhteydess\u00e4 nuorten ruokailutottumuksiin. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellut ruokailutottumukset olivat aamiaisen, hedelmien ja vihannesten sy\u00f6misen useus sek\u00e4 ep\u00e4terveellisten v\u00e4lipalojen k\u00e4yt\u00f6n useus.\n\nTutkimusaineistona k\u00e4ytettiin vuoden 2014 WHO-Koululaistutkimuksen Suomen aineistoa, josta analysoitiin 7.- ja 9.-luokkalaisten taustatietoihin, ruokailutottumuksiin, sosioekonomiseen asemaan ja asuinpaikkaan liittyvi\u00e4 muuttujia. Tutkimusongelmien analysoinnissa k\u00e4ytet-tiin frekvenssijakaumia ja ristiintaulukointia. Tutkittujen yhteyksien tilastollista merkitsevyytt\u00e4 selvitettiin khiin neli\u00f6 -testill\u00e4.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 pojat s\u00f6iv\u00e4t hedelmi\u00e4 ja vihanneksia harvemmin ja joivat limsoja useammin kuin tyt\u00f6t. Vanhempien korkeampi sosioekonominen asema oli positiivisesti yhteydess\u00e4 nuorten terveellisiin ruokailutottumuksiin. Tilastollisesti merkitsevi\u00e4 yhteyksi\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyi vanhempien sosioekonomisen aseman ja aamiaisen, hedelmien, vihannesten ja sokeroitujen limsojen k\u00e4yt\u00f6n v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Tutkimuksessa saatiin viitteit\u00e4 siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 maaseudulla asuvat nuoret sy\u00f6v\u00e4t harvemmin hedelmi\u00e4, vihanneksia ja ep\u00e4terveellisi\u00e4 v\u00e4lipaloja kuin kaupungissa asuvat. Tulokset eiv\u00e4t olleet suoraviivaisia, niiden perusteella ei voi sanoa onko maaseudulla vai kaupungissa asuvilla nuorilla terveellisemm\u00e4t ruokailutottumukset. Maantieteellisen asuinpaikan ja nuorten ruokailutottumusten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei ollut suoraviivaista yhteytt\u00e4.\n\nTerveyseroja tulee edelleen pyrki\u00e4 kaventamaan. Ravitsemuskasvatukseen kouluissa ja kouluruokailuun tulee panostaa, sill\u00e4 koulu tavoittaa kaikki lapset heid\u00e4n asuinpaikastaan ja sosioekonomisesta asemastaan riippumatta. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen heikkoutena oli poikkileikkausasetelma. Tarvittaisiin pitkitt\u00e4istutkimusta selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n nuorten ruokailutottumusten muutoksia ja niit\u00e4 aikaansaavia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4. Esimerkiksi miss\u00e4 i\u00e4ss\u00e4 poikien ruokailutottumukset muuttuvat tytt\u00f6jen tottumuksia ep\u00e4terveellisemmiksi ja mitk\u00e4 syyt vaikuttavat t\u00e4h\u00e4n. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa ei tutkittu ruokien annoskokoja, joten jatkotutkimuksena voisi my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, kuinka paljon suomalaiset nuoret sy\u00f6v\u00e4t viikossa esimerkiksi karkkeja, hedelmi\u00e4 ja vihanneksia.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The aim of this master\u2019s thesis was to examine the association between parents\u2019 socio-economic status, the residence and eating habits among 7th and 9th graders. This study inves-tigated if there exist urban-rural differences or geographic differences for adolescents eating habits. The eating habits were identified by consumption frequencies of breakfast, fruits, veg-etables and unhealthy snacks.\nThe data of the study was based on the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) Study 2014 in Finland. The analyzed variables were background information, eating habits, parents\u2019 socio-economic status and the residence of the 7th and 9th graders. Frequency distri-butions, cross-tabulations and chi-square test were used to analyze the data.\nThe results indicate that boys ate less frequently fruits and vegetables and drank soft drinks more often than girls. Parents\u2019 high socio-economic status was positively associated with healthy eating habits among adolescents. Statistically significant associations were found be-tween parents\u2019 socio-economic status and consumption of breakfast, fruits, vegetables and sugary soft drinks. Adolescents living in rural areas are less likely to eat fruits, vegetables and unhealthy snacks than adolescents living in urban areas. The results were not linear. It is not possible to say whether adolescents living in rural areas or in the urban areas have healthier eating habits. There was no linear connection between the geographical habitual residence and the eating habits of adolescents.\nThe findings underline the need for more deliberate and focused action to close gaps in social inequalities that affect food choices. Nutrition education in schools and school meals should be invested as the school reaches all children regardless of their residence and socio-economic status. The limitation of this study was a cross-sectional survey. Longitudinal studies are needed to reveal the potential causal relationships between parents\u2019 socioeconomic status, the residence and eating habits among adolescents. Further research on onter factors that influ-ence the dietary choices of adolescents is indicated.
