Nämä Japanin lääketieteellisen tekoäly-tutkimuksen esimerkit ovat tekoälyllä varustetut robotit Parlo ja Pepper, tekoälyjärjestelmä HIKARI, sekä Kioton yliopistossa kehitetty tekoälyjärjestelmä, joka tulkitsee fMRI-kuvantamisella saatuja aivokuvia. Tutkielma pyrkii sel-keyttämään tekoälyn käyttöä Japanin terveydenhuollossa ja luomaan pohjaa tarkastellulle mahdollisuuksista käyttää tekoälyä Suomen terveys- ja sosiaalialalla. Tutkielmassa selvisi kuinka Japanissa on tekoälyä kehitetty jo 1960-luvulta lähtien ja kuinka tekoälyä on hyödynnetty käytännössä Japanilaisissa sairaaloissa. Tutkielmassa huomataan kuinka polarisoitunutta tekoälyn ja ylipäätään informaatioteknologian käyttö on japanilaisissa sairaaloissa. Tutkielmassa lopuksi pohditaan mahdollisia näkökulmia lisätutkimukseen tekoälyn käytöstä terveydenhoitoalalla muiden tekoälyn tutkimusta vahvasti tukevien valtioiden, kuten Yhdysvaltojen ja Kiinan, osalta. This thesis covers how artificial intelligence can be utilized in Japan’s healthcare system. The thesis is realized by a literature review. Concept of arti-ficial intelligence is defined from a multidisciplinary point of view. In addition, the brief history of artificial intelligence and the history of artificial intelli-gence’s development in Japan will be covered. A general overview of the use of information technology and artificial intelligence in Japanese healthcare is cov-ered. Furthermore, three short case studies from Japan are presented. The first case is Palro- robot and Pepper- robot, which are equipped with artificial intel-ligence. The second case is artificial intelligence based system HIKARI which helps with clinical decision making. The third case is an artificial intelligence based system, developed in Kyoto University, which decodes pictures of hu-man brain taken with fMRI technology. This study aims to clarify artificial intel-ligence’s use in Japan’s healthcare and create an opportunity to analyse the possibility of using artificial intelligence in Finland’s welfare and health system. It is discovered that the use of artificial intelligence and information technology overall is very polarized in Japan. Lastly the thesis also explores potential per-spectives for further research of using artificial intelligence in the healthcare systems in emerging artificial intelligence countries’ like the United States and China.
