Master`s thesis in Sports Pedagogy, 97 pp. 2 appendices.\n\nThe purpose of this thesis was to describe individual ways of physical education teachers\u00b4 deal with disruptive behavior during classes. In addition to this the aim was to find out what kind of inappropriate behavior teachers face in their lessons.\n\nThe research represented qualitative approach and followed the hermeneutic phenomenological research strategy. Four secondary school physical education teachers participated in research. The selection of the research group was based on a discretionary sample. The research data was collected separately with semi-structured interviews. Interviews were transcribed in written form and after that those were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. While analyzing forms of misbehavior, the data was treated as a single entity. When analyzing teachers' attitudes, each teachers\u00b4 interview data was analyzed apart from others.\n\nThe result of the study consists of concepts formed through content analysis and their relation to theoretical knowledge. The challenging behavior faced by teachers interviewed varied. Based on the study, the misbehavior in physical education classes either 1) violates the rights or well-being of others or 2) makes it difficult to achieve learning objectives. Teachers' attitudes towards disruptive behavior were individual. As a result of the research, also four different kinds of descriptions of misbehavior attitudes were emerged. The first teacher emphasized the importance of the atmosphere, the second teacher aimed to stay in charge, whereas the third teachers\u00b4 priority was to keep the students busy and the fourth teacher emphasized the importance of upbringing.\n\nThe research achieved its objectives. The result of this thesis was to give insight the features of the misbehavior as well as on those four different ways in which physical education teachers solve problem situations and maintain order. When observing effects of teachers varying backgrounds the size of the school was most effective factor to misbehavior. The teacher's work experience and gender did not emerge so clearly as factors affecting discipline problems. Based on the research, there were differences in the teachers\u00b4 classroom management strategies, but also similarities. The differences emerged for example in opinions wheatear the problem situation was seen as a learning opportunity or was the only purpose of teachers\u00b4 actions just to stop students\u00b4 misbehavior. The teachers also had differing views on whether a solution to the disruptive behavior could be passed on to other parties such as a rector or class administrator. Mutual to all teachers\u00b4 opinions were that interaction with the student was considered important. Tutkimukseen osallistui nelj\u00e4 yl\u00e4koulun liikunnanopettajaa. Tutkimusjoukon valinta perustui harkinnanvaraiseen n\u00e4ytteeseen. Tutkimusaineisto ker\u00e4ttiin yksil\u00f6haastatteluina teemahaastattelun avulla. Kirjalliseen muotoon litteroidut haastattelut analysoitiin aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin avulla. H\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisen muotoja k\u00e4sitelt\u00e4ess\u00e4 aineisto k\u00e4siteltiin yhten\u00e4 kokonaisuutena. Opettajien suhtautumistapoja analysoitaessa jokaisen opettajan haastattelu analysoitiin muista erill\u00e4\u00e4n.\n\nTutkimuksen tulokset koostuvat sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin kautta muodostetuista k\u00e4sitteist\u00e4 ja niiden suhteesta teoriatietoon. Haastateltujen opettajien kohtaama h\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyminen oli moninaista. Tutkimuksen perusteella liikunnanopettajien kohtaama h\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyminen joko 1) loukkaa toisten oikeuksia tai hyvinvointia tai 2) vaikeuttaa oppimistavoitteiden saavuttamista. Opettajien suhtautumistavat h\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymiseen olivat yksil\u00f6llisi\u00e4. Tutkimuksen tuloksena syntyi nelj\u00e4 erilaista kuvausta h\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymiseen suhtautumisesta. Ensimm\u00e4inen opettaja korosti ilmapiirin merkityst\u00e4, toinen opettaja pyrki pit\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n kontrollin tiukasti itsell\u00e4\u00e4n, kun taas kolmas opettaja pyrki pit\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n oppilaat kiireisin\u00e4 ja nelj\u00e4s opettaja korosti kasvattamisen t\u00e4rkeytt\u00e4. \n\nTutkimus saavutti sille asetetut tavoitteet. Ty\u00f6n anti oli h\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4yt\u00f6silmi\u00f6n ominaisuuksien n\u00e4kyv\u00e4ksi tekeminen sek\u00e4 nelj\u00e4 erilaista kuvausta siit\u00e4, miten liikunnanopettajat arjessaan h\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4yt\u00f6stilanteita ratkaisevat. Opettajien erilaisista taustatekij\u00f6ist\u00e4 h\u00e4iri\u00f6k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4n vaikutti eniten koulun koko.
