Tavoitteena oli kartoittaa, ovatko liikunnanopettajat tietoisia motivaatiosta ja motivaatioilmastosta k\u00e4sittein\u00e4 sek\u00e4 niihin keskeisesti vaikuttavista tekij\u00f6ist\u00e4. Tavoitteena oli my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, millaisia pedagogisia ja didaktisia keinoja liikunnanopettajat k\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t ty\u00f6ss\u00e4\u00e4n oppilaiden motivoimiseksi liikuntaan. Lis\u00e4ksi oltiin kiinnostuneita koululiikunnan erityispiirteist\u00e4 oppilaiden motivointiin liittyen. \nTutkimuksen teoreettisena viitekehyksen\u00e4 toimi itsem\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4mis- ja tavoiteorientaatioteorioista johdettu itsem\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4mismotivaatiota edist\u00e4v\u00e4 motivaatioilmasto. Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisin menetelmin haastattelemalla viitt\u00e4 kokenutta liikunnanopettajaa. Tutkimusotteena k\u00e4ytettiin fenomenologis-hermeneuttista l\u00e4hestymistapaa. Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin siis selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n liikunnanopettajien kokemuksia oppilaiden motivoimisesta liikuntaan sek\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n kokemusten merkityksi\u00e4 opettajille. Merkityksist\u00e4 tehtiin tulkintoja ja tutkittavaa ilmi\u00f6t\u00e4 pyrittiin kuvailemaan mahdollisimman kokonaisvaltaisesti.\nTutkimukseen osallistuneet liikunnanopettajat pitiv\u00e4t motivaatiota eritt\u00e4in keskeisen\u00e4 ja t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 asiana liikunnan opetustapahtumassa. Motivaatio ja motivaatioilmasto n\u00e4htiin monimuotoisena kokonaisuutena ja opetusryhm\u00e4t niiden suunnassa eritt\u00e4in heterogeenisin\u00e4, mik\u00e4 koettiin haasteena liikunnanopettajalle oppilaiden motivoimisessa liikuntaan. Koululiikunnan erityispiirre n\u00e4kyv\u00e4n\u00e4 ja kehollisuutta korostavana oppiaineena lis\u00e4si t\u00e4t\u00e4 haastetta entisest\u00e4\u00e4n. Liikunnanopettajat kokivat erityisen haasteellisena motivoida murrosik\u00e4isi\u00e4 oppilaita, joilla oli ep\u00e4varma kehonkuva ja alhainen k\u00e4sitys itsest\u00e4\u00e4n liikkujana. Parhaina motivoinnin keinoina liikunnanopettajat pitiv\u00e4t yksil\u00f6llisyyden huomioimista ja turvallisen ilmapiirin luomista liikuntatunneille. \nTutkimukseen osallistuneiden liikunnanopettajien k\u00e4sitysten ja kokemusten perusteella motivaation k\u00e4site ja oppilaiden motivointi koululiikuntaan n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyiv\u00e4t pitk\u00e4lti aiemman tutkimustiedon suunnassa. My\u00f6s liikunnanopettajien k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4t motivoinnin keinot olivat suurelta osin motivaatiota edist\u00e4vi\u00e4 aiemman tutkimustiedon perusteella. Secondly, the aim was to survey teachers' knowledge about motivation and motivational climate as well as awareness of issues related to them. Thirdly, the aim was to find out what kind of pedagogical and didactical methods teachers use to motivate students in physical education. In addition the aim was to study characteristics of physical education concerning students' motivating. \nThe theoretical framework of this research was based on combination of self-determination theory and goal-orientation theory from which self-determined motivational climate was built. This research was a qualitative study and the data were collected by interviewing five experienced physical education teachers. Research's philosophical baseline was phenomenological-hermeneutical approach. The purpose was to find out physical education teachers' experiences about motivating students and understand the meanings of the teachers' experiences. The meanings were interpreted and the examined phenomenon was described as comprehensively as possible. \nPhysical education teachers participated in this research regarded motivation as a central and important issue in physical education. They considered motivation and motivational climate as a diverse phenomenon via school classes were considered very heterogeneous. This was regarded as a challenge for physical educator in motivating students. Physical education's characteristic as a visible and bodily subject emphasized the challenge. Participated teachers felt as a great challenge to be able to motivate students with uncertain body image and low perception of itself as a physically active person. Teachers regarded that the best ways to motivate students are paying attention to individuals and establishing a safe atmosphere in physical education classes. \nAccording to the results the perceptions and experiences of the physical education teachers about motivation and motivating students were similar to the previous researches. Also the methods that teachers use to motivate students in physical education were positively motivational according to the previous researches.
