Paastoglukoosi- ja sokerihemoglobiiniarvolla (HbA1c) voidaan kuvata diabeetikon hoitotasapainoa. Sairauteen vaikuttavat niin perint\u00f6tekij\u00e4t kuin elintavat. S\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6llisell\u00e4 kuntoliikunnalla on todettu olevan my\u00f6nteinen vaikutus tyypin 2 diabeetikoiden glukoosiarvoihin. Fyysisen passiivisuuden, kuten istumisen merkityst\u00e4 sairauteen on viel\u00e4 v\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkittu. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, onko vapaa-ajan liikunnan ja istumisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4 tyypin 2 diabeetikoiden sokeriaineenvaihduntaan. Lis\u00e4ksi tarkasteltiin diabeetikoiden vapaa-ajan liikuntaa ja istumism\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4 verrattuna Terveys 2011 -tutkimukseen osallistuneisiin henkil\u00f6ihin. \n\nTutkimusaineisto on osa laajaa Suomen aikuisv\u00e4est\u00f6\u00e4 koskevaa Terveys 2011 tutkimusta. Tutkittavia diabeetikoita oli yhteens\u00e4 260. Aineistonkeruu toteutettiin kyselylomakkeella, terveystarkastuksella ja haastattelulla. Diabeetikot tunnistettiin haastattelukysymyksen avulla. Kotiin postitetulla kyselylomakkeella selvitettiin tutkittavien vapaa-ajan liikunnan ja istumisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4. Glukoosiarvot m\u00e4\u00e4ritettiin terveystarkastuksen yhteydess\u00e4 otetusta verin\u00e4ytteest\u00e4. Aineiston tilastolliset analyysit toteutettiin IBM SPSS Statistics 25 \u2013ohjelmalla. Analysoinnissa k\u00e4ytettiin Kolmogorov Smirnovin testi\u00e4, ristiintaulukointia ja Spearmanin j\u00e4rjestyskorrelaatiota, Mann-Whitneyn U -testi\u00e4 ja Kruskall Wallisin testi\u00e4.\n\nTyypin 2 diabeetikot liikkuivat huomattavasti v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n kuin Terveys 2011 -tutkimukseen osallistuneet. Tutkittavista diabeetikoista 85 % ei harrastanut s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6llist\u00e4 kuntoliikuntaa. Vapaa-ajan istumista arkip\u00e4iv\u00e4n aikana diabeetikoille kertyi 46 minuuttia enemm\u00e4n verrattuna koko otokseen. Vapaa-ajan liikunnalla ei ollut yhteytt\u00e4 tyypin 2 diabeetikoiden glukoosiarvoihin. Vapaa-ajan istumisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 korreloi heikosti paastoglukoosin kanssa (Spearmanin j\u00e4rjestyskorrelaatio = 0,2) Tarkasteltaessa vapaa-ajan liikuntaa ja vapaa-ajan istumista yhdess\u00e4, ei n\u00e4ill\u00e4 havaittu olevan yhteytt\u00e4 tyypin 2 diabeetikoiden glukoosiarvoihin. \n\nTulosten perusteella tyypin 2 diabeetikot harrastavat hyvin v\u00e4h\u00e4n liikuntaa vapaa-ajallaan verrattuna Terveys 2011 -tutkimukseen osallistuneisiin. Diabeetikoilla istumisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 oli heikosti yhteydess\u00e4 glukoosiarvoihin, mik\u00e4 viittaa siihen, ett\u00e4 runsas istuminen saattaa olla riskitekij\u00e4 diabeetikoiden sokeriaineenvaihdunnan s\u00e4\u00e4telyss\u00e4. Vapaa-ajan liikunnalla ei havaittu olevan yhteytt\u00e4 diabeetikoiden glukoosiarvoihin, mik\u00e4 osittain selittynee sill\u00e4, ett\u00e4 kuntoliikuntaa harrastavien diabeetikkojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 oli hyvin pieni. The fasting glucose- and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) values can be used to describe the balance of the glucose metabolism in diabetics. Genetic factors and lifestyle affect type 2 diabetes. Regular moderate-to-vigorous intensity exercise has been found to have a positive effect on the glucose values of type 2 diabetics. There is still little research about the importance of sedentary behavior for type 2 diabetes. The aim of this study was to determine if there is an association between leisure time exercise and sedentary time with glucose metabolism in type 2 diabetics. In addition, the study explored leisure time exercise and time spent sitting of diabetics compared to the Health 2011 survey sample. \n\nThe research data is part of the Health 2011 Survey sample, which is an extensive Finnish population survey. There were 260 diabetic cases. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire, a health examination, and an interview. Through the interview, diabetic cases were identified. The questionnaire, which was mailed to subjects, was used to investigate the amount of leisure time exercise and sedentary time. The glucose values of the diabetic cases were measured from blood samples taken in the health examination. The statistical analysis of the data was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. In the analyses Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, cross tabulation, and Spearman\u00b4s rank correlation, Mann-Whitney U -test, and Kruskall Wallis test were used.\n\nType 2 diabetic cases were considerably less physically active in their leisure time than the Health 2011 survey sample. 85 % of the diabetics did not participate in regular exercise. Leisure time spent sitting was 46 minutes more in diabetics compared to the entire sample during the weekday. Leisure time exercise did not show any association with glucose values in diabetics. The amount of leisure time spent sitting was weakly correlated with fasting glucose (Spearman\u00b4s rho = 0.2). There was no association between the combination of leisure time exercise and leisure time spent sitting with glucose values in type 2 diabetics.\n\nBased on the results, type 2 diabetics are considerably less physically active in their leisure time than the Heath 2011 survey sample. The amount of sedentary time was weakly associated with glucose markers in type 2 diabetics, indicating that excess sedentary time may be a risk factor for poor glucose metabolism in diabetics. No significant association between leisure time exercise and glucose markers was observed. The number of diabetic cases with moderate-to-vigorous exercise may explain partly this finding. More research is needed with a large enough sample.
