Alusta onkin her\u00e4tt\u00e4nyt suurta kiinnostusta my\u00f6s koulutuksen ja opetuksen tutkimuksen saralla. Suurin osa aiemmin tehdyst\u00e4 tutkimuksesta on keskittynyt Facebookin soveltuvuuteen opetusalustana, opiskelijoiden v\u00e4liseen kommunikointiin sek\u00e4 kuinka opettajan Facebookin k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 vaikuttaa h\u00e4nen uskottavuuteensa. T\u00e4ten opettajien v\u00e4list\u00e4 kommunikointia Facebookissa ei ole juurikaan tutkittu.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n kandidaatintutkielman teht\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, miksi suomalaiset englannin kielen opettajat liittyv\u00e4t Facebookissa oleviin opetus- ja opettaja-aiheisiin ryhmiin ja kokevatko he niiden j\u00e4senyyden auttavan heit\u00e4 heid\u00e4n urakehityksess\u00e4\u00e4n. Tutkielma my\u00f6s koitti tarkastella, mik\u00e4li vastaukset paljastaisivat joitain mielenkiintoisia ajankohtaisia ilmi\u00f6it\u00e4 ja mahdollisesti jopa ongelmakohtia, joita opettajat kohtaavat ammatissaan. Aineistonkeruumenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin kyselylomaketta, joka sis\u00e4lsi sek\u00e4 monivalintaa ett\u00e4 avoimia kysymyksi\u00e4. Aineisto analysoitiin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en hyv\u00e4ksi laadullista sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysia.\n\nTutkimus osoitti, ett\u00e4 opettajat liittyv\u00e4t opetus- ja opettaja-aiheisiin Facebook-ryhmiin saadakseen omaan opetukseensa erilaisia vinkkej\u00e4, ideoita ja materiaaleja. My\u00f6s vertaistuki korostui vastauksissa. Hyvin suuri osa vastaajista koki ryhmien j\u00e4senyydet itselleen hy\u00f6dyllisiksi, sill\u00e4 niist\u00e4 sai paljon erilaisia ideoita, ne mahdollistivat keskustelun muiden opettajien kanssa ja jotkut olivat jopa saaneet sijaisuuksia ryhmien avulla. Ryhm\u00e4t my\u00f6s vahvistivat heid\u00e4n omaa opettajaidentiteetti\u00e4\u00e4n.
