Lis\u00e4ksi tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 heid\u00e4n vanhempiensa ruutuajan ja fyysisen aktiivisuuden yhteytt\u00e4 nuorten ruutuaikaan ja fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen.\r\nAineistona k\u00e4ytettiin LIKES-tutkimuskeskuksen ker\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4 Liikkuva koulu -ohjelman seuranatutkimusaineistoa, joka ker\u00e4ttiin vuonna 2013. Tutkimuksen kohdejoukkona olivat seitsem\u00e4sluokkalaiset oppilaat ja heid\u00e4n huoltajansa (n=269). Tutkimuksen aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kahden eri kyselylomakkeen avulla. Oppilaat t\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t oppilaskyselylomakkeen koulussa oppitunnin aikana ja vanhemmille l\u00e4hetettiin huoltajakysely s\u00e4hk\u00f6postitse. Aineiston analysoinnissa hy\u00f6dynnettiin riippumattomien otosten t-testi\u00e4, parittaista t-testi\u00e4, ristiintaulukointeja, khiin-neli\u00f6testi\u00e4, Pearsonin korrelaatioanalyysi\u00e4 ja varianssianalyysi\u00e4. \r\nTutkimustulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 tytt\u00f6jen ja poikien kokonaisruutuajan m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4t eiv\u00e4t eronneet toisistaan. Eniten ruutuaikaa nuorille kertyi television katselemisesta sek\u00e4 tietokoneen k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 ja pelien pelaamisesta. Runsas tietokoneen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 ja pelaaminen oli yleisemp\u00e4\u00e4 pojilla kuin tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi havaittiin, ett\u00e4 ruutuaikaa kertyy enemm\u00e4n viikonlopun p\u00e4ivin\u00e4 kuin arkip\u00e4ivin\u00e4. Vanhemmille ruutuaikaa kertyi eniten television katselusta. Lis\u00e4ksi havaittiin, ett\u00e4 isien ruutuajan kokonaism\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 oli merkitsev\u00e4sti \u00e4itien ruutuaikaa suurempi. \r\nPojat saavuttivat tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 useammin liikuntasuosituksen, eli liikkuivat v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n 60 minuuttia viikon jokaisena p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4. Pojista 36,1 prosenttia ja tyt\u00f6ist\u00e4 14,7 prosenttia ylsi suositukseen. \u00c4idit harrastivat kevytt\u00e4 liikuntaa useammin kuin is\u00e4t. Is\u00e4t taas olivat hieman aktiivisempia kilpailijoita ja tavoitteellisia harjoittelijoita. Nuorten kokonaisruutuajan ei todettu olevan yhteydess\u00e4 heid\u00e4n fyysiseen aktiivisuuteensa, mutta runsas tv:n katselu (>4h) oli negatiivisessa yhteydess\u00e4 fyysisen aktiivisuuden suositusten saavuttamiseen sek\u00e4 arkisin ett\u00e4 viikonloppuisin. \u00c4idin fyysisen aktiivisuuden todettiin olevan positiivisesti yhteydess\u00e4 tytt\u00f6jen aktiivisuuteen. Vanhempien ruutuajan m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4t puolestaan olivat yhteydess\u00e4 toisiinsa, ja vanhempien ruutuajan m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4 oli yhteys nuorten ruutuaikaan. \r\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen perusteella saatiin vahvistusta aiempien tutkimusten antamiin tuloksiin, joiden mukaan vanhempien ruutuaika on yhteydess\u00e4 nuorten ruutuaikaan. Kuitenkaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden yhteyt\u00e4 vanhempien ja nuorten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa pystytty osoittamaan yht\u00e4 selke\u00e4sti kuin joissakin aiemmissa tutkimuksissa. Erityisesti poikien, aiempia tutkimuksia suurempaan, fyysisen aktiivisuuden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4n saattoi vaikuttaa aineiston ker\u00e4\u00e4minen Liikkuvista kouluista, joissa on oletettavasti tehty toimia koulup\u00e4ivien aikaisen liikunnan lis\u00e4\u00e4miseksi. Master\u2019s thesis in sports education. 66 p.\r\nThe main purpose of this study was to explore the association between the amount of screen time and physical activity among seventh-grade students and their parents. In addition, the research explored the association between screen time and physical activity of the students and their parents.\r\nThe research materials used were data collected during the 2013 research Finnish Schools on the Move by LIKES Research Centre for Physical Activity and Health. The targeted group of this research was seventh-grade students in upper comprehensive school and their parents or guardians (n=269). The data were collected by two separate questionnaires. The students completed their questionnaires during school, and the parents responded through an electronic form. An Independent Samples T Test, Paired-Samples T Test, Crosstabulation, Pearson\u2019s correlation analysis and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) analyzed the data.\r\nThe data showed that there were no major differences between boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 screen time. Most of the children\u2019s screen time consisted of watching television, computer usage, and vid-eo game playing. Boys used computers and played video games more than girls did. Moreo-ver, it was observed that the children\u2019s screen time accumulated mainly during weekend days. Most of the parents\u2019 screen time consisted of watching television. In addition, it was deter-mined that the fathers\u2019 average screen time was significantly more that the mothers\u2019 screen time.\r\nGenerally, the results showed that boys were more physically active than girls were. The boys achieved the recommended amount of physical activity \u2013 60 minutes per day on every day of the week; 36.1% of the boys and 14.7% of the girls exceeded the recommended amount of physical activity per day. The mothers conducted light physical activity more often than fa-thers did. In contrast, the fathers were more often involved in competitive sports and were more goal-oriented. It was not determined that the screen time of children had an impact on their physical activity, but substantial television screen time (>4h) had a negative impact on achieving the recommended physical activity time on weekdays and on weekends. The moth-ers\u2019 physical activity showed a positive relationship to the physical activity of girls. The par-ents\u2019 screen time was in coherence between the couples. The parents\u2019 screen time was in direct relation to the children\u2019s screen time.\r\nThis study provided support for previous studies in which the results revealed a similar rela-tionship between the parents\u2019 screen time and the children\u2019s screen time. However, the corre-spondence of the amount of physical activity among the parents and their children could not be confirmed as clearly as in previous studies. Especially in the boys\u2019 case, the data could have been influenced by data being collected within the Finnish Schools on the Move project, in which the children were intentionally exposed to a larger amount of physical activity during school time. In addition, the research did not consider the amount of time the children spent using their mobile phones. Recently, smartphones have significantly increased the amount of screen time among teenagers. At the same time, future digital trends will increase the chil-dren\u2019s screen time.
