Mallien soveltuvuutta pohjoismaisiin\nvesist\u00f6ihin tulee tarkastella, sill\u00e4 mallit eiv\u00e4t v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 pysty arvioimaan\nluotettavasti haitallisten pitoisuuksien raja-arvoja happamissa ja pehmeiss\u00e4\npohjoismaisissa vesiss\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n ty\u00f6n tarkoituksena oli tuottaa toksisuusaineistoa\nnikkelin bioligandimalleille altistamalla kroonisesti metalleille herkk\u00e4\u00e4 Lymnaea\nstagnalis \u2013kotilolajia eri nikkelipitoisuuksissa. Tuotetulla aineistolla arvioitiin\nkolmen eri bioligandimallin soveltuvuutta kolmeen suomalaiseen vesist\u00f6\u00f6n.\nToksisuuskokeiden avulla kehitettiin my\u00f6s testausmenetelm\u00e4\u00e4 kotilolajille.\nKokeissa havaitut ja mallien tuottamat laskennalliset toksisuusarvot vastasivat\ntoisiaan kahdessa vesist\u00f6ss\u00e4, mutta kolmannessa havaittu arvo oli yli\nkaksinkertainen verrattuna laskennalliseen arvoon. The new EQS are based on\nbioavailable concentrations. The problem is that some properties of the waters,\nsuch as dissolved organic carbon (DOC), affect the bioavailability of the heavy\nmetals in different fresh waters. The solution is to estimate EQS-values by using\nbioligand models that can predict acceptable values for different water systems.\nHowever, there are some validation problems when using models to estimate\nvalues for Nordic freshwaters. The first aim of this study was to produce nickel\ntoxicity data for three different freshwaters by implementing chronic toxicity test\nusing the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis. The data was used to estimate how well the\nthree bioligand models could predict the toxicity values. The second aim was to\ndevelop a L. stagnalis toxicity test method. In two of the three freshwater areas the\nobserved and predicted toxicity values were very similar, in the third however,\nthe observed value was more than double what was predicted. However, all\npredicted values were lower than observed, and it could protect nature in a better\nway. The method developed along with test even though the differences of dry\nweights between concentrations were too small. The method has potential, but it\nneeds more development, especially to optimize the feeding of the test animals.\nThe bioligand models are suitable for estimating the EQS values in Nordic\nfreshwaters.
