Ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen on huomattu vaikuttavan fyysisen suorituskyvyn muuttujiin. I\u00e4n my\u00f6t\u00e4 voimatasojen\r\nsek\u00e4 toimintakyvyn on havaittu laskevan, mutta on my\u00f6s huomattu, ett\u00e4 erilaisella harjoittelulla\r\nvoidaan parantaa suorituskyky\u00e4 my\u00f6s ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyess\u00e4. Voimaharjoittelun on havaittu parantavan\r\nmuun muassa lihasten laatua ja voimatasoja. Harjoittelun on my\u00f6s havaittu parantavan p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4isist\u00e4\r\naskareista suoriutumista. Ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen muutosten nopeuteen vaikuttaa muun muassa perim\u00e4 ja n\u00e4in\r\nollen ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyminen tapahtuu jokaisella omaa tahtia. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 tutkittiin ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen ja voimaharjoittelun\r\nvaikutuksia ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyvill\u00e4 miehill\u00e4 10 vuoden aikana.\r\nMenetelm\u00e4t. Tutkittavat olivat Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4ss\u00e4 asuvia i\u00e4kk\u00e4it\u00e4 miehi\u00e4, jotka olivat osallistuneet ensimm\u00e4isiin\r\nmittauksiin vuonna 2007. T\u00e4ll\u00f6in heid\u00e4t oli jaettu voimaharjoitteluryhm\u00e4\u00e4n, joka harjoitteli\r\nvuoden, sek\u00e4 kontrolliryhm\u00e4\u00e4n. Ensimm\u00e4isen vuoden ohjatun voimaharjoittelujakson j\u00e4lkeen osa tutkittavista\r\njatkoi voimaharjoittelua koko kymmenen vuoden seurantajakson ajan. Kymmenenvuotismittauksiin\r\nosallistui 24 tutkittavaa (ik\u00e4 78.8 \u00b1 2.1 vuotta). Mittaukset suoritettiin samalla tavalla jokaisena\r\nmittausvuotena (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 ja 2017). Tutkittavien kehonkoostumusta tarkasteltiin\r\neri mittausmenetelmill\u00e4 kuten DXA:lla, ultra\u00e4\u00e4nell\u00e4, bioimpedanssilla, ihopoimumittauksella sek\u00e4\r\nheilt\u00e4 mitattiin vartalon ymp\u00e4rys, paino sek\u00e4 pituus. Veriarvot otettiin laskimoverin\u00e4ytteest\u00e4 ja suorituskykymuuttujilla\r\ntarkasteltiin voimatasojen sek\u00e4 muiden fyysisten ominaisuuksien muutoksia. N\u00e4it\u00e4\r\nmittauksia oli porrasjuoksu, tuolilta nousu, isometriset voimatestit, dynaaminen jalkapr\u00e4ssi ja staattinen\r\nhyppy. Aineisto analysoitiin tilastollisesti k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 -ohjelmaa.\r\nTulokset: Ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen havaittiin vaikuttavan suorituskykymuuttujiin. Suorituskykymuuttujat laskivat\r\nik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen my\u00f6t\u00e4. Voimaharjoittelu paransi porrasjuoksun aikaa tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti\r\nilman lis\u00e4painoja ja viiden kilogramman lis\u00e4painoilla suoritettuina (p < 0.05). Kymmenen vuoden\r\naikajaksolla tarkasteltaessa ilman painoja, viiden sek\u00e4 10 kilogramman lis\u00e4painoilla tehdyt porrasjuoksut\r\nkuitenkin hidastuivat tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti (p < 0.001). My\u00f6s muilla voima/suorituskykymuuttujilla\r\nhavaittiin sek\u00e4 tulosten parantumista voimaharjoittelun my\u00f6t\u00e4 ett\u00e4 tulosten\r\nheikkenemist\u00e4 ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen my\u00f6t\u00e4. Testosteronipitoisuus ei muuttunut ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen my\u00f6t\u00e4 merkitsev\u00e4sti,\r\nmutta SHBG kasvoi 10 vuodessa (p < 0.001).\r\nPohdinta. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 pro gradu -tutkimuksessa selvitettiin ik\u00e4\u00e4ntyvill\u00e4 miehill\u00e4 kymmenen vuoden aikana\r\ntapahtuneita muutoksia kehon koostumuksessa, lihasten voimatasoissa sek\u00e4 muissa suorituskykymuuttujissa.\r\nTulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 voimaharjoittelu on merkityksellist\u00e4 my\u00f6s vanhemmalla i\u00e4ll\u00e4. Voimaharjoittelulla\r\npystyt\u00e4\u00e4n est\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n voima-arvojen ja suorituskyvyn heikkenemist\u00e4. Several challenges arise when getting older. Bones become perish and senses weaken.\r\nAging affects the physical performance: strength levels and functional capacity decline. However, it\r\nhas been noted that different training can improve the physical performance even in older people.\r\nStrength training has been shown to improve also the quality and strength of the muscles. Daily living\r\nactivities are also improved as a result of training. The speed of aging process is individual, since genome\r\namong other things has an effect on it. In this study, the effects of aging and strength training in\r\nthe elderly were investigated over a 10-year period.\r\nMethods. The subjects were elderly men living in Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. They had participated in the measurements\r\nfirst time already in 2007. They were divided into a strength-training group and to a control\r\ngroup. After a first year instructed strength-training period some of the trainees continued their\r\nstrength training throughout the ten years follow-up period. There were 24 subjects taken part in 10-\r\nyear measurements. The measurements were performed in the same manner each year of measurements\r\n(2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2017). The subjects\u2019 body composition was studied by using\r\ndifferent measurement methods, such as DXA, ultrasound, bioimpedance, skinfold measurement.\r\nBody circumference, weight and length were also measured. Blood samples were taken from the venous\r\nblood sample and the changes of performance variables were observed. The performance variables\r\nincluded stairs rise, chair rise, isometric strength tests, dynamic leg press and static jump. The\r\ndata was statistically analyzed by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 program.\r\nResults. Aging did affect on performance variables. The performance variables decreased with aging.\r\nStrength training improved statistically significantly the time of the stair rise with no additional weight\r\nand with the extra weight of five kilograms (p < 0.05). However, the time of the stair rise with and\r\nwithout extra weight decreased statistically significantly (p < 0.001) during the ten-year period. Similar\r\nchanges were also observed in other strength and performance variables. Testosterone levels did\r\nnot change significantly with age but SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) increased during the 10-\r\nyear period (p < 0.001).\r\nDiscussion. This master\u00b4s thesis investigated the changes in body composition, muscle strength and\r\nother performance variables in old men for ten years. The results show that strength training is relevant\r\nto older men, too. Strength training can prevent weakening of force values and performance.
