Fysioterapia on viitekehyksen tasolla kuusi, jonka mukaan tulee hallita ”edistyneet taidot, joita vaaditaan mo-nimutkaisten ja ennalta arvaamattomien ongelmien ratkaisemiseksi työssä”. Pro gradutyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää fysioterapeutin itsearvioitua ammattitaitoa akuuttisai-raalassa. Tutkimuksen itsearviointikysely toteutettiin syksyllä 2015 ja kohderyhmänä olivat yhden suomalaisen sairaanhoitopiirin fysioterapeutit (N=200). Kyselyn vastausprosentti oli 73% (N=146). Vastaajista 91% oli naisia ja 9% miehiä. Iältään he olivat 23–63-vuotiaita. Osaamiskartoituskysely koostui taustatiedoista ja ammattipätevyyttä kuvaavista 38 väittämäs-tä, jotka jakautuivat viidelle fysioterapian ydinosaamisalueelle. Kysymykset koostuivat sekä toiminnan laatua mittaavasta janasta (0–100) että toiminnan tiheyttä mittaavasta Likert-asteikosta (0–3). Tässä tutkimuksessa lähtökohtana on teoria siitä, että tekemällä ja toistojen kautta taidot kehittyvät paremmiksi. Tähän perustuen taitoa on tutkittu yhdistämällä laatu ja tiheys keskenään, jolloin saatiin taitoa kuvaava asteikko (0–300). Kaikissa fysioterapian ydinosaamisalueissa toiminnan tiheys ja laatu korreloivat positiivisesti(r=0.545–0.648, p<0.001) eli mitä useammin tiettyä ydinosaamisen aluetta suoritti, sitä laa-dukkaammin sen myös teki. Fysioterapeutit arvioivat tekevänsä työssään eniten (2.5/3) fysiote-rapiaa potilaan kuntoutumisessa ja arvioivat tämän osa-alueen toiminnan laadun toiseksi par-haimmaksi (82/100). Vähiten (1.7/3) fysioterapeutit arvioivat tekevänsä fysioterapian tutkivaa ja kehittävää työotetta ja arvioivat myös toiminnan laadun tällä osa-alueella heikoimmaksi (66/100). Fysioterapiatoiminnan ja työyhteisön kehittäminen osa-alueen toiminnan useus arvi-oitiin 2.4/3 ja laatu 83/100, kommunikaatio osa-alueen toiminnan useus 2.2/3 ja laatu 75/100 ja opetusta ja ohjaus osa-alueen toiminnan useus 1.9/3 ja laatu 70/100. Fysioterapeutit arvioivat itsensä taitavimmaksi kliinisissä fysioterapiataidoissa (217/300) ja heikoimmaksi työn peruste-luiden etsimisen ja argumentoinnin taidoissa (128.4/300). Yhteisöön osallistumisen taidot arvi-oitiin toiseksi vahvimmiksi (202.2/300), kolmanneksi kommunikaatiotaidot (179/300) ja nel-jänneksi ohjaustaidot (152.8/300). Alle 30-vuotiaat fysioterapeutit arvioivat ohjaustaidot (p<0.01) heikommaksi verrattuna 30–39-vuotiaisiin, 40–49-vuotiaisiin ja 50-vuotiaisiin ja yli. Työkokemuksen osalta alle 10-vuotta työskennelleet arvioivat ohjaustaidot (p<0.001) sekä kliiniset fysioterapiataidot (p<0.01) heikommaksi kuin 10-vuotta tai yli työskennelleet Tutkimuksen tulosten mukaan, mitä useammin fysioterapeutit toteuttivat tiettyä ydinosaami-sen aluetta, sitä laadukkaammin he myös suorittivat sen. Vanhempien ja pidempään työsken-nelleiden fysioterapeuttien ohjaustaidot olivat nuorempia ja lyhyemmän työkokemuksen omaavia paremmat. Työkokemuksen osalta pidempään työskennelleiden fysioterapeuttien fy-sioterapiataidot potilaan kuntoutumisessa olivat paremmat verrattuna lyhyemmän työkoke-muksen omaaviin. Skills mean the ability to apply knowledge and to use the know-how in order to complete tasks and solve problems. Skills are learned by training. The core competence of physiotherapy includes knowledge and skills which are used in physiotherapy profession. The European Commissions (2017) European qualifications framework (EQF) includes knowledge, skills and responsibilities that are needed in different levels of qualifications. Physiotherapy is on the level six and at this level you must have ”advanced skills, demonstrating mastery and in-novation, required to solve complex and unpredictable problems in a specialized field of work”. The purpose of this thesis was to find out how an acute hospital physiotherapists evaluate their skills. The survey was conducted in autumn of 2015 and the target group was physio-therapists who worked in one of the Finnish hospital districts (N=200). The questionnaire was answered by 73 % (N=146) physiotherapists (91% women and 9% men) and their age ranged from 23 to 65 years old. The competence was assessed through a questionnaire consisted of background information and a total of 38 claims on the five main core competence areas. Each of the claims consisted of a continuous line (0–100) in which the respondent specifies their quality level of competence and Likert-scale (0–3) for frequency of using this in their work. Behind this study was a background theory which claimed that by practicing skills they would get better. Based on this assumption physiotherapists skills were assessed through combining those previous two scales (quality and frequency) so that the skills were measured on a scale from 0-300. In all five main core competence areas physiotherapists self-assessment of quality and fre-quency correlated positively (r=0.545–0.648, p<0.001) meaning that the more physiotherapists performed one competence area the higher the self-assessed quality was in the same area. Physiotherapists assessed frequency highest in physiotherapy in the patient rehabilitation (2.5/3) and the quality in this area was assessed to be the second best (82/100). Lowest fre-quency (1.7/3) was assessed in development of competence utilizing evidence based practice and the quality of this section was also the lowest (66/100). In the area of engagement in the development process of the physiotherapy unit frequency was assessed 2.4/3 and quality 75/100, frequency of communication was 2.2/3 and quality 75/100 and frequency of teaching and tutoring was 1.9/3 and quality 70/100. Physiotherapists assessed that their skills were highest in clinical physiotherapy skills (217/300) and lowest in skills of finding justifications for the work and argumentation skills (128.4/300). Skills of participation in the work community was 202.2/300, communication skills 179/300 and teaching skills 152.8/300. Physiotherapists under the age of 30 assessed their teaching skills (p<0.01) to be weaker than compared to the 30–39 years old, 40–49 years old and 50 years old and older physiotherapists. Physiothera-pists whose work experience were under 10 years assessed teaching skills (p<0.001) and clini-cal physiotherapy skills (p<0.01) to be weaker than those whose work experience were 10 years or more. According to this study the more often physiotherapists assessed carrying out a specific core competence area the better they also assessed the quality of their competence in the same area. Older physiotherapists and those who had longer work experience assessed their teaching skills better than physiotherapists who were younger and had shorter work experience. Those who had longer work experience also assessed their clinical physiotherapy skills to be better.
