Suomessa tulevaisuuden liikunnanopettaja n\u00e4hd\u00e4\u00e4n hyvin koulutettuna, fyysisen hyvinvoinnin ammattilaisena, joka vastaa koko koulun liikunnallistamisesta sek\u00e4 oppilaiden henkil\u00f6kohtaisen liikuntaneuvonnan j\u00e4rjest\u00e4misest\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, millaiset tekij\u00e4t vaikuttavat liikunnanopettajan rooliin kouluyhteis\u00f6ss\u00e4 sek\u00e4 millaisissa rooleissa liikunnanopettajat toimivat kouluissaan. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on lis\u00e4t\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 niist\u00e4 tekij\u00f6ist\u00e4, jotka edist\u00e4v\u00e4t liikunnanopettajan laaja-alaisessa roolissa toimimista, ja toisaalta niist\u00e4 haasteista, jotka rajoittavat liikunnanopettajia toimimasta koulujen aktiivisina liikunnallistajina.\r\n\r\nTutkimukseen haastateltiin kuutta yl\u00e4koulun ja lukion liikunnanopettajaa. Heist\u00e4 nelj\u00e4 oli miehi\u00e4 ja kaksi naisia. Haastattelut toteutettiin puolistrukturoituina teemahaastatteluina ja haastatteluaineisto analysoitiin laadullisen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin keinoin. Analyysin ensimm\u00e4isess\u00e4 vaiheessa aineisto luokiteltiin teoriaohjaavasti yl\u00e4luokkiin, joista muodostettiin analyysirunko \u2013 Liikunnanopettajan rooliin vaikuttavat tekij\u00e4t. Toisessa vaiheessa liikunnanopettajien vastauksia vertailtiin kesken\u00e4\u00e4n ja liikunnanopettajat jaettiin kolmeen ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n lukuvuoden aikana toteutuneen roolin perusteella. Ryhm\u00e4t nimettiin laaja-alaisessa-, neutraalissa \u2013ja pieness\u00e4 roolissa toimineet liikunnanopettajat. Kuhunkin ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n valikoitui kaksi liikunnanopettajaa. Ryhmi\u00e4 analysoitiin analyysirungon avulla, jonka perusteella selvitettiin, ovatko tietyt tekij\u00e4t ominaisia eri ryhmille.\r\n\r\nLiikunnanopettajan rooliin vaikutti kokonaisuus, joka muodostui liikunnanopettajan yksil\u00f6llisest\u00e4 ty\u00f6kyvyst\u00e4 ja ty\u00f6nkuvasta sek\u00e4 koulun tarjoamasta ty\u00f6ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6st\u00e4, ty\u00f6yhteis\u00f6st\u00e4 ja toimintakulttuurista. Pieness\u00e4 roolissa toimineita liikunnanopettajia yhdistiv\u00e4t ty\u00f6n yksil\u00f6llisyytt\u00e4 korostavat tekij\u00e4t, kuten runsas matkustaminen ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4n aikana, liikunnanopetukseen rajoittunut ty\u00f6nkuva sek\u00e4 m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4aikainen ty\u00f6suhde. Laaja-alaisessa roolissa toimineita liikunnanopettajia yhdistiv\u00e4t erityisen my\u00f6nteinen asenne koulun liikunnallistamista kohtaan. Neutraalissa ja laaja-alaisessa roolissa toiminen edellyttiv\u00e4t koulun toimintaymp\u00e4rist\u00f6lt\u00e4 liikunnallistamisen perusedellytyksi\u00e4, joista t\u00e4rkeimpi\u00e4 olivat koulun omat liikuntatilat ja v\u00e4lineet, ty\u00f6yhteis\u00f6n parissa toimimisen mahdollistava ty\u00f6kuva sek\u00e4 esimiehen liikuntamy\u00f6nteisyys. Eroja neutraalin ja laaja-alaisen roolin v\u00e4lill\u00e4 selittiv\u00e4t liikunnanopettajien asenteet koulun liikunnallistamista kohtaan, yksil\u00f6llinen ty\u00f6kyky sek\u00e4 kouluissa vallinnut toimintakulttuuri.\r\n\r\nTulosten perusteella laaja-alaisessa roolissa toimimista tukisi parhaiten opettajan ty\u00f6kyvyn kanssa tasapainossa oleva ty\u00f6nkuva, joka mahdollistaisi koulurakennuksessa ja ty\u00f6yhteis\u00f6n parissa toimimisen. Today in Finland, there is an expectation that PE teachers will take charge of the promotion of active lifestyles in their school communities. The purpose of this study was to examine the factors, which have an influence to the role of PE teacher in school environment. Another aim was to investigate what kind of roles PE teachers performed in their schools during the semester 2016 \u2013 2017. The aims of this study is to increase the knowledge about those factors which advancing working in the comprehensive role, and on the other hand, bring up those challenges which preventing PE teachers to promote an active lifestyle in their schools. \r\n\r\nSix PE teachers were interviewed. Three of them worked in high-school and three in junior high. Two of the interviewees were women and the others were men. The interviews were semi-structured and they analysed qualitatively. The analyzing phase consisted of two parts. In the first part, the data was classified into the five main categories and seventeen subcategories. In the second part of the analysis, the interviewees were divided into the three groups based on the teacher\u2019s role during the semester. The typical answers of each group were described in all the main categories. The three groups were named as comprehensive, neutral and small role. Two teachers were selected to each group.\r\n\r\nPE teacher\u2019s role was influenced by a comprehensive model, which consisted individual working ability and job description, as well as working environment, work community and school culture offered by school. The factors, which emphasized individual attributes of work, such as travelling during the day, narrow job description and fixed-term employment combined the teachers who worked in the small role. The teachers in the comprehensive role had a highly positive attitude towards the promotion of physical activity (PA) in schools. The most crucial basic condition for performing the neutral and comprehensive roles proved to be school\u2019s own sport facilities, sufficient support and positive attitude towards PA in school. The differences between the neutral and comprehensive roles explained teachers\u2019 attitudes towards promotion of PA in school, individual working ability and prevalent school culture. \r\n\r\nBased on the results, the job description that is in balance with teacher\u2019s working ability and enable the collaboration with school community supporting in the best way performing the comprehensive role.
