Työssä tutkitaan, miten VARK-miellejärjestelmä soveltuu yläkoululaisten historian verkko-oppimateriaalin eriyttämisen perustaksi oppimistulosten ja oppimiskokemusten näkökulmasta. Tutkimusta varten luotiin verkko-oppimisympäristö, johon koottiin yhden oppitunnin aikana opiskeltava yläkoulun historian oppimateriaali 7. ja 8. luokkalaisille. Oppimateriaali jaettiin VARK-miellejärjestelmän oppimisstrategioita hyödyntäviin neljään oppimiskanavaan ja oppilaille määritettiin heidän VARK-kyselyn vastaustensa perusteella omat VARK-profiilit. Empiirinen analyysi perustuu yhdistettyyn kvantitatiiviseen ja kvalitatiiviseen aineistoanalyysiin. Oppilaiden lopputestistä saamia oppimistuloksia ja loppukyselyllä kerättyjä subjektiivisia oppimiskokemuksia tutkitaan suhteessa oppilaiden taustamuuttujiin ja tutkimuksen alkuvaiheessa määritettyihin VARK-profiileihin. Oppimistulosten ja oppimiskokemusten tueksi oppilaiden työskentelyä verkko-oppimisympäristössä havainnoidaan automatisoitujen verkkonauhoitusten ja tapahtumalokin avulla. Verkko-oppimisympäristön oppimateriaalin eriyttämisellä VARK-miellejärjestelmämallin pohjalta ei tämän tutkimuksen perusteella ole merkittävää vaikutusta oppilaiden oppimistuloksiin. Sen sijaan oppimiskokemuksissa korostuivat positiivinen suhtautuminen verkko-oppimisympäristön oppimiskanavien ja työvälineiden tarjoamiin valintamahdollisuuksiin verkko-oppimateriaalin opiskelussa. Tutkimusta varten luotu oppimateriaali koettiin yleisesti opiskelutavaltaan motivoivana. Oppilaiden vastauksissa nousivat lisäksi esiin itseohjautuvuuden merkitys sekä vaikeudet verkko-oppimisessa. For differentiation, the VARK sensory preference classification model is being used. The model aims to support learning preferences by categorizing learners to visual, aural, read-write and kinesthetic sensory modalities with help of a questionnaire and offering them different learning strategies based on that categorization. In this research, we study how VARK applies to a basis of e-learning environment for Finnish junior high school evaluated from the perspective of students’ learning results and experiences. For this study, an e-learning environment with history learning material for 7th and 8th grade students was created. The learning material was divided into four learning channels utilizing strategies from VARK model. A specific VARK profile for each student was also defined based on their answers to VARK questionnaire.
