Siten GDD:llä on olennainen rooli peliprojektin onnistumisessa. Jyväskylä Game Lab (JGL) oli projekti jonka tavoitteena on kehittää uusia koulutuksellisia metodeja pelikoulutukseen Jyväskylässä. Tämä tutkielma tutkii pelisuunnitteluprosessia JGL-projektiryhmissä, tarkoituksena analysoida miten ryhmät käyttivät suunnitteludokumentteja pelin kehityksen tukena, miten yleiset ongelmat ilmenivät sekä vertailla prosessia yleisiin kirjallisuudessa esitettyihin käytäntöihin. Tutkimuksen tuloksena syntyy jatkoideoita siitä millaisia asioita peliprojekteissa pitäisi tutkia dokumentoinnin kannalta. Game design documenting in JGL game projects. Game Design Document (GDD) is a key document about game design, and its purpose is to organize game development in order to facilitate the collaboration of multidisciplinary teams. It should capture the overall vision of an artistic product, and describe all the features of the game so exhaustively that it can be used to create a software product. Problems in GDD may cause lack of shared understanding in a project team, rework and loss of investments. Therefore GDD has an essential role to success of the game development. Jyväskylä Game Lab (JGL) was a project which aimed to develop new educational methods for game education in Jyväskylä. This thesis studies the game design process of JGL project groups, in purpose to analyze, how the documenting is used for the benefit of the game development, what common problems occur and compare the process to the common practices presented in literature. As a result of research is generated information how the documenting affects to the game project and how common practices and problems should be taken into account.
