Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 opiskelijoille suunnatun kyselytutkimuksen ja luentotilanteessa j\u00e4rjestetyn kokeen avulla, mihin tarkoitukseen digitaalisia laitteita luennoilla k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n, onko laitteiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 luennoilla hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 tai haittaa oppimiseen \u2013 vaikuttaako laitteiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 keskittymiseen ja oppimistilanteesta muodostuvaan muistij\u00e4lkeen.\r\n\r\nTutkimuksen kohteena olivat Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston opiskelijat kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 2017. Tutkimusmateriaali ker\u00e4ttiin kyselyll\u00e4 (N = 347), jossa kartoitettiin opiskelijoiden mielipiteit\u00e4, kokemuksia ja asenteita digitaalisten laitteiden luentojen aikaisesta k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4. Kyselyn lis\u00e4ksi aineistoa ker\u00e4ttiin luonnollisessa luentotilanteessa toteutetussa koej\u00e4rjestelyss\u00e4 (N = 85), jossa opiskelijoiden mielipiteiden lis\u00e4ksi mitattiin vain kyni\u00e4 ja paperia ty\u00f6v\u00e4linein\u00e4\u00e4n k\u00e4ytt\u00e4neen koeryhm\u00e4n ja multitaskingille altistuneen kontrolliryhm\u00e4n v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 eroja luennolla k\u00e4siteltyjen aiheiden mieleen palauttamisessa. \r\n\r\nKyselytutkimuksessa opiskelijajoukosta profiloitui digitaalisten laitteiden p\u00e4\u00e4asiallisen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tarkoituksen mukaan kolme erilaista k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4ryhm\u00e4\u00e4: luentojen aikana opiskeluun tai viihteeseen laitettaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4vien opiskelijaryhm\u00e4t sek\u00e4 ryhm\u00e4, joka k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 laitetta luennolla harvoin tai ei koskaan. Ryhmien v\u00e4lisiss\u00e4 vertailuissa havaittiin selkeit\u00e4 eroja muun muassa suhtautumisessa laitteiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6n hy\u00f6dyllisyyteen ja h\u00e4iritsevyyteen luentojen aikana. Koej\u00e4rjestelyn tuloksista puolestaan tehtiin havainto, ett\u00e4 opiskelijat kykeniv\u00e4t palauttamaan mieliins\u00e4 luennon sis\u00e4ll\u00f6n samankaltaisesti huolimatta siit\u00e4, altistuivatko laitteiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 johtuvalle multitaskingille tai eiv\u00e4t.\r\n\r\nTutkimustuloksista voidaan p\u00e4\u00e4tell\u00e4, ett\u00e4 luentojen aikaisen digitaalisen laitteen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tarkoituksella on ratkaisevaa merkityst\u00e4 - sill\u00e4 miten ja mihin laitetta p\u00e4\u00e4asiallisesti k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n, on vaikutusta luennoilla opiskeluun. Vaikka laitteiden k\u00e4ytt\u00e4minen luennoilla v\u00e4ist\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 johtaa useamman teht\u00e4v\u00e4n suorittamiseen samanaikaisesti ja haastaa siten kognitiivisen tiedonk\u00e4sittelykykymme, riippuu hyvin monenlaisista yksil\u00f6- ja tilannetekij\u00f6ist\u00e4 sek\u00e4 k\u00e4ytett\u00e4viss\u00e4 olevasta aikaikkunasta, kuinka kyvykk\u00e4\u00e4sti opiskelija p\u00e4\u00e4llekk\u00e4isten teht\u00e4viens\u00e4 suorittamisessa onnistuu ja kykenee toimimaan tavoitteidensa mukaisesti \u00e4rsykkeit\u00e4 tulvivassa oppimisymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "Multitasking in learning situation \u2013 an empirical survey of the influence of digital device use on learning during the lectures in university.\r\nThe purpose of this thesis is to find out the influence of the digital device use (mobile phone, laptop, tablet) on learning during the lectures in university. The goal was to examine how multitasking impacts on learning through a query and an experimental design implemented in lecture situation. What purposes are the digital devices used for in lessons, are there any advantage or disadvantage factors on learning when using these devices \u2013 could there also be influence on focusing and recalling lesson contents? \r\n \r\nThe study was accomplished among Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 University students in spring 2017. Data was collected by query (N = 347), where opinions, experiences and attitudes about using digital devices during lectures were asked. Also there was created an experimental design (N = 85) in natural lecture situation. The groups of students \u2013 pencil and paper group, and multitasking control group \u2013participated in an experimental lecture situation, and the goal was to find out if there would be any differences between two different groups how well students will manage to recall content of a lesson after the lecture was ended. \r\n\r\nWhen studying the query data, there was possibility to recognize three different kinds of groups which were categorized with the purpose of the digital device use during the lectures. Those profiles are: the group of students which use digital device for learning, the group of students which use digital device for entertainment and the group of students which hardly ever use digital device during lectures. When comparing these groups there was remarking differences i.e. in between attitudes in experienced usefulness and distraction effects of digital devices on learning. In addition to that, it was found in an experimental lecture situation that students from both experimental groups were able to recall the content of lesson similarly, nevertheless they had used digital devices during the lecture or not. \r\n\r\nThe results of this study is, that the meaning of the digital device use during the lecture is crucial \u2013 it really matters how and what purposes the digital devices are used.
