Tavoitetta rajattiin tarkastelemalla, onko ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen tarpeen muutos suhteellinen ammattiryhmien tai toimialojen keskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4iseen kykytarpeeseen. Tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 my\u00f6s, onko ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen muutos vaihdellut eri ammattiryhmiss\u00e4 ja toimialoilla. Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, kuinka ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen muutos on vaihdellut, mik\u00e4li siin\u00e4 havaitaan eroja ammattiryhmien ja toimialojen v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Sen lis\u00e4ksi, ett\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen muutosta yleisell\u00e4 tasolla, tutkittiin eri kykyjen muutosta yksil\u00f6llisesti. N\u00e4in pyrittiin saamaan entist\u00e4 yksityiskohtaisempaa ja hy\u00f6dyllisemp\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa.\r\n\r\nTiivistelm\u00e4 \r\n\r\nTutkimuksessa tarkastellaan ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen muutosta empiirisesti. Tarkastelun kohteena on kuusi kyky\u00e4, joiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 analysoidaan useissa ammattiryhmiss\u00e4 ja toimialoilla. Tutkimus toteutettiin yhdist\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 kahden eri tietokannan aineistoa. PIIAC-aineisto kertoo erilaisten kykyjen k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 eri ammateissa ja toimialoilla. Palkkarakenneaineisto puolestaan sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa ty\u00f6llisyyden muutoksista Suomessa. Kvantitatiivinen tarkastelu tuo uusia n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmia ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen muutosta koskevaan keskusteluun, sill\u00e4 aiemmin aihetta on l\u00e4hestytty useimmiten kvalitatiivisesti.\r\n\r\nHavainnot\r\n\r\nTy\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen kysynt\u00e4 on muuttunut Suomessa tarkasteltavana ajankohtana. Ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen muutos eri ammattiryhmiss\u00e4 tukee vallitsevaa k\u00e4sityst\u00e4 ty\u00f6n polarisoitumisesta. Toimialoittain tarkasteltuna saadaan kuitenkin erilaisia tuloksia. Tutkimuksen mukaan ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4taitojen kysynt\u00e4 on laskenut entisest\u00e4\u00e4n aloilla, joilla on keskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4isesti matala kykytarve, ja vastaavasti kasvanut aloilla, joiden keskim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4inen kykytarve on korkea. More specifically, the aim of the study was to explore whether the change in skill demand is relative to the average skill intensity of occupational groups or industries. The purpose was to discover, whether and how the skill demand has changed across occupational groups and industries. In addition to observing the changes in overall skill demand, it was considered important to analyse each skill set separately, in order to gain more detailed and, therefore more useful, information.\r\n\r\nSummary\r\n\r\nThis study addresses the change in skill demand empirically. There are six different skill sets under observation and the analysis covers several occupational groups and industries. The study is conducted by combining information from two separate datasets. PIIAC data includes information about the skill demand in different occupations and industries, whereas the structure of earnings data informs about the changes in employment in Finland. The quantitative approach brings new insights to the discussion about work life skill requirements, since the previous research studies have typically been based on qualitative methods. \r\n\r\nConclusions\r\n\r\nThe work life skill demand in Finland has changed over the period of observation. Changes in skill demand across occupations support the prevailing view of the polarization of work. Instead, industrial observation suggests that skill demand has decreased further among the industries at the lower end of the skill distribution while increasing at the higher end of the skill distribution.
