Aikaisempien tutkimusten mukaan on arvioitu muun muassa, ett\u00e4 Yhdysvalloissa kuolee vuosittain noin miljardi lintua ikkunat\u00f6rm\u00e4yksen seurauksena. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynsin tiedett\u00e4v\u00e4sti ensimm\u00e4isen kerran rengastettujen lintujen tietoja ikkunat\u00f6rm\u00e4yskuolemien tarkastelemisessa. Analysoimani data sis\u00e4lsi yhteens\u00e4 6 388 ikkunat\u00f6rm\u00e4yksess\u00e4 kuollutta rengastettua lintuyksil\u00f6\u00e4. Ty\u00f6n tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyyk\u00f6 lintujen ikkunat\u00f6rm\u00e4yskuolemille selitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 ryhmittelem\u00e4ll\u00e4 aineiston lintulajit taksonomian mukaisiin lajiryhmiin, litulajien painon mukaan, uhanalaisuusluokituksen mukaan sek\u00e4 eri elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ryhmiin. Lis\u00e4ksi selvitin vuosien 1974 \uf02d 2014 tapahtuneiden lintujen t\u00f6rm\u00e4yksien jakautumista Suomessa verrattuna lintujen rengastuspaikkoihin ja Suomen kuntien v\u00e4est\u00f6tiheyteen.\r\n\r\nErilaisten linturyhmien ikkunaan t\u00f6rm\u00e4\u00e4misen todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isyyden kuvaamisessa k\u00e4ytin avuksi termi\u00e4 t\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttius. Lintujen t\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttiudet lintulajeittain aineiston mukaan laskin jakamalla tarkasteltavan lintulajin aineiston mukaiset vuosien 1974 \uf02d 2014 v\u00e4lill\u00e4 tapahtuneet kuolettavat ikkunat\u00f6rm\u00e4ykset kyseisin\u00e4 vuosina rengastettujen lintuyksil\u00f6iden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4. T\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttius kuvaa siis tarkasteltavana olevan lintulajin kuolettavan ikkunaant\u00f6rm\u00e4\u00e4misen todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isyytt\u00e4.\r\n\r\nTekemieni tilastollisten analyysien perusteella kaikista suurin t\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttius oli lajiryhm\u00e4ll\u00e4 haukat ja pienin yhdistetyll\u00e4 ryhm\u00e4ll\u00e4 lokit ja tiirat. Linnun painolla ja lintujen ikkunat\u00f6rm\u00e4\u00e4mistodenn\u00e4k\u00f6isyydell\u00e4 ei ollut yhteytt\u00e4. Uhanalaisuusluokittelun mukaan uhanalaisten lintujen t\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttius oli 1,9 kertainen verrattuna ei-uhanalaisiin lintulajeihin. Uhanalaisen valkoselk\u00e4tikan t\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttius oli toiseksi suurin kaikista tarkasteltavista lintulajeista. Rengasl\u00f6yt\u00f6jen perusteella Suomessa joka 80:s rengastettu valkoselk\u00e4tikka t\u00f6rm\u00e4\u00e4 kuolettavasti ikkunaan. Elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6luokittelun mukaan selv\u00e4sti suurin t\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttius oli vanhan mets\u00e4n lintulajeilla. Maantieteellisen sijoittuvuuden mukaan lintuja t\u00f6rm\u00e4si eniten niiss\u00e4 Suomen kunnissa, joissa my\u00f6s v\u00e4est\u00f6tiheys on suuri.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "Bird deaths resulting from bird-window collisions are one of the biggest human associated avian mortality factor. In previous studies it has been estimated that in the United States alone about 1 billion birds are killed annually due to collisions with windows. In this study I used bird ringing data probably for the first time to analyse bird deaths resulting from window strikes. Data included 6 388 banded bird individuals which were found dead after collision with window. The aim of this study was to find out if there are any factors which would influence bird-window deaths. In this study I sorted bird species by taxonomy, weight, conservation status and environment. Moreover I analysed how deathly bird-window collisions have distributed over Finland in years 1974 \uf02d 2014 compared to bird ringing coordinates in those years and Finland's municipality density.\r\n\r\nTo describe the window collision probability of different bird groups I used a term colliding vulnerability (t\u00f6rm\u00e4ysalttius). I calculated colliding vulnerabilities for different bird groups by dividing deadly window collisions during years 1974 \uf02d 2014 by amount of banded birds in that time scale. Colliding vulnerability represents the probability of bird specie to collide lethally with windows.\r\n\r\nAccording to the results the most vulnerable taxonomic bird group to collide lethally with windows was hawks and the least vulnerable was group which included gulls and terns. There was no connection between weight and probability of leathal window collisions. I found out that according to conservation status probability of lethal bird-window collision of endangered bird species was 1,9 times higher than probability of unendagered bird species. The white-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos) had the second biggest colliding vulnerability of all bird species which were included in this study. According to banding recoveries of birds every 80th ringed white-backed woodpecker dies by colliding with window in Finland. The highest striking probability of different environment groups was within old-forest bird species.
