Mobile\r\nnetwork operators have entered the aspiring market, but because of the novelty\r\nof the paradigm, many aspects of business and technology in the area are\r\nstill undiscovered. In this thesis, views of possible mobile network operator business\r\nmodels were presented, and the object was to discover, how mobile network\r\noperator business models change in the future Internet of Things. The research\r\nbased on theoretical concepts of value, innovation diffusion and technology\r\nadoption life cycle, as well as business models, corporate strategy and enabling\r\ntechnologies constituting Machine-to-Machine communications and the future\r\nInternet of Things.\r\nThe qualitative research method used in this thesis was based on Mika Mannermaa\u2019s\r\nevolutionary futures research, and it was applied to concepts of business\r\nmodel evolution and innovation life cycle models. Theoretical basis of the\r\nresearch was presented using literature, and the methodological framework was\r\nconstructed using both life cycle models and system methodologies.\r\nMain findings of this research indicated, that a mobile network operator\u2019s\r\nbusiness models change as the diffusion of innovation, the Internet of Things,\r\ncontinues. Several key elements of the business model evolve, as technology is\r\nadopted more and the surrounding ecosystem grows creating more actors and\r\nrelationships between them.
