V\u00e4hemm\u00e4lle huomiolle on j\u00e4\u00e4nyt teknologian omaksumisen est\u00e4j\u00e4t, koska niiden on oletettu olevan vain toistensa vastakohtia. Tutkimus hy\u00f6dynsi laadullisia menetelmi\u00e4 selvitt\u00e4\u00e4kseen mikrobloggaukseen liittyv\u00e4t omaksumisen haasteet ja ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4kseen sen, miksi k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4t vastustavat teknologiaa organisaatiokontekstissa. Teknologian hyv\u00e4ksynn\u00e4n ja k\u00e4yt\u00f6n mallien (UTAUT ja UTAUT2) yhdistelm\u00e4\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin teoreettisena viitekehyksen\u00e4. Aineistoa ker\u00e4ttiin teemahaastattelemalla ty\u00f6ntekij\u00f6it\u00e4 (= 13) ja analyysiss\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynnettiin teemoittelua ja luokittelua j\u00e4rjest\u00e4en laadullinen aineisto merkityksellisiin aihepiireihin. Tutkimus tuo esille uskomuksia, jotka est\u00e4v\u00e4t k\u00e4yt\u00f6n aikomuksia ja siten edist\u00e4v\u00e4t sosiaalisen viestint\u00e4v\u00e4lineen hylk\u00e4\u00e4mist\u00e4 hyv\u00e4ksymisen sijaan. Haastattelujen tuloksista k\u00e4y ilmi, ett\u00e4 ty\u00f6ntekij\u00f6ill\u00e4 on kielteisi\u00e4 kokemuksia ja ajatuksia Yammeriin liittyen, esimerkiksi monet keskustelut sis\u00e4lsiv\u00e4t vain v\u00e4h\u00e4n hy\u00f6dyllist\u00e4 tietoa ja sovellus keskeytti liikaa ty\u00f6ntekoa. Virtuaalinen kommunikointi koettiin kylm\u00e4ksi ja tunteettomaksi, kasvokkain tapaamisia suosittiin teknologiav\u00e4litteisten kohtaamisten sijaan. Microblogging and collaboration platforms for enterprise social networking (ESN), e.g. Yammer, have some considerable potential to improve communication and knowledge sharing among staff, help their job performance, and enhance workplace productivity. However, enterprises faced a set of challenges in employee adoption of social software solutions. Information systems research on technology acceptance has focused extensively on enablers of technology adoption and usage. Much less attention has been given to the inhibitors of technology acceptance due to the assumption that the inhibitors are merely the opposite of the enablers. What comes to microblogging in the workplace, it is still unclear how it would perform. This thesis investigates employees\u2019 acceptance and use of Yammer in a midsize organization and focuses on identifying the inhibitors and barriers of an enterprise social network usage. The research was used qualitative methods discovering microblogging adoption challenges and understanding why users reject technology in the organizational context. The models for the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT and UTAUT2) are used as a combined framework. The data collection was done using the theme-centered interviews with employees (=13) and for the analysis a thematic approach was adopted to turn the qualitative data into meaningful patterns. The study posits the existence of additional beliefs that inhibit usage intentions and thus foster rejection rather than acceptance of an enterprise social network. The results of the interviews explore employees\u2019 negative experiences and feelings about Yammer, such as many of the contributions have had only of little value and the software was too \u201cnoisy\u201d because of notifications and interruptions. Some stated that virtual communication was cold and unemotional, face-to-face meetings have been preferred over technology-enabled interactions. In addition, social media logic was found unfamiliar and a \u201cliking culture\u201d uncomfortable.
