(2 liitett\u00e4).\r\nT\u00e4m\u00e4 pro gradu -tutkielma selvitti luontoliikunnan roolia yl\u00e4koulun liikunnanopetuksessa. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli saada selville luontoliikunnan opetusm\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4 ja sis\u00e4lt\u00f6j\u00e4 sek\u00e4 mitk\u00e4 opettajien kokemat tekij\u00e4t ovat yhteydess\u00e4 luontoliikunnan opetukseen.\r\nTutkimus toteutettiin kyselylomaketta k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en. Kyselylomake sis\u00e4lsi 17 kysymyst\u00e4, jotka olivat joko strukturoituja tai avoimia kysymyksi\u00e4. Kysely l\u00e4hetettiin Liito ry:n s\u00e4hk\u00f6postilistan kautta yl\u00e4koulun liikunnanopettajille syksyll\u00e4 2016. Kyselyyn vastasi 94 opettajaa, joista 33 oli mies- ja 61 naisopettajia. Tutkimukseen osallistuneet opettajat vastasivat kyselyyn lukuvuoden 2015 \u2013 2016 liikunnanopetuksensa pohjalta. Aineiston analysoinnissa k\u00e4ytettiin faktorianalyysia, ristiintaulukointia ja \u03c7\u00b2-testi\u00e4 sek\u00e4 keskiarvojen vertailussa t-testi\u00e4 ja varianssianalyysia.\r\nTulosten mukaan luontoliikuntaa opetettiin yl\u00e4koulun aikana keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin 39,5 tuntia. Eniten opetettiin suunnistusta, keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin 13,1 tuntia ja maastohiihtoa 8,3 tuntia yl\u00e4koulun aikana. Koko yl\u00e4koulun pakollisesta liikunnasta luontoliikunta kattoi 17,3 prosenttia. Huomionarvoista tuloksissa oli my\u00f6s se, ett\u00e4 frisbeegolfia opetettiin yl\u00e4koulun aikana 4,8 tuntia ja se oli nelj\u00e4nneksi suosituin opetussis\u00e4lt\u00f6. Maastohiihdon opetusvalmiutensa hyviksi kokeneet opettajat opettivat maastohiihtoa enemm\u00e4n kuin heikot valmiudet omaavat opettajat. Miesopettajat opettivat enemm\u00e4n frisbeegolfia kuin naisopettajat. (2 annexes.)\r\nThe purpose of this study was to examine the role of outdoor education in upper secondary physical education. The aims were to define the duration and content of outdoor education lessons and examine which factors influence outdoor education according to teachers. \r\nThe data were collected through a questionnaire containing 17 structured and open-ended questions. The questionnaire was sent to upper secondary school physical education teachers identified from a mailing list of the Association of Physical and Health Educators in Finland in autumn 2016. In total, 94 physical education teachers, of whom 33 were male and 61 female, responded to the questionnaire. The teachers\u2019 answers were based on the 2015\u20132016 school year. Data were analysed through factor analysis, cross tabulation, chi-square test, t-test and analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA).\r\nThe results showed that outdoor education was taught for 39,5 hours during upper secondary school. Orienteering (13,1 hours) and cross-country skiing (8,3 hours) were taught the most. Disc golf was the fourth most popular topic; it was taught for 4,8 hours. Outdoor education represented 17,3 percent of all upper secondary school physical education lessons. No statistical significance was found in the relationship between teachers\u2019 gender, age, childhood residence, own interest in outdoor activities, technology use or school location and the number of hours of outdoor education.\r\nOn average, teachers thought that they had good teaching skills related to outdoor education. Teachers who perceived themselves as having good skills teaching cross-country skiing taught it more than others teachers. Male teachers taught more disc golf than female teachers. Having a jogging track, orienteering terrain, a cross-country skiing track or hiking terrain near the school increased the hours devoted to cross-country skiing lessons. The proximity of a jogging track also increased the hours of jogging lessons. The proximity of hiking terrain increased the hours of both hiking and downhill skiing lessons. The proximity of a lake or other waterway reduced the hours of orienteering lessons but increased the hours of tour skating lessons. The proximity of orienteering terrain increased the hours of disc golf lessons.\r\n\r\nThe teachers thought that a lack of resources limited the possibilities for outdoor education in schools. About 50 percent of teachers wished they received more support in providing outdoor education. More equipment and economic resources were the most frequently mentioned forms of support. In all, 56,9 percent of teachers used technology for outdoor education. Smartphone cameras and various mobile applications for orienteering were the most common forms of technology used. \r\n\r\nTeachers\u2019 teaching skills and positive attitudes towards outdoor education and students\u2019 interest in outdoor education enhanced the possibilities for outdoor education and increased teaching time. Teachers who had good teaching skills related to outdoor education taught more physical education lessons outdoors than teachers who thought that their teaching skills were poor. Physical education teacher training should provide multifaceted opportunities to allow teachers to develop teaching skills in outdoor education.
