Uusin tutkimuksen haara on tiatsyylien koordinoiminen siirtym\u00e4metalleihin, joka lis\u00e4\u00e4 magneettista vuorovaikutusta parittoman elektronin ja paramagneettisen metallin v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ja mahdollistaa uudenlaisten magneettisten materiaalien valmistamisen.\r\nT\u00e4m\u00e4 Pro gradu -tutkielma koostuu kahdesta osasta: kirjallisuuskatsauksesta ja kokeellisesta osuudesta. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa k\u00e4yd\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00e4pi typpe\u00e4 ja rikki\u00e4 sis\u00e4lt\u00e4vien radikaalien tuoreimpia tutkimustuloksia. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa on k\u00e4sitelty erityisesti ditiadiatsolyyli- ja ditiatsolyyliradikaalien synteesi\u00e4 ja ominaisuuksia sek\u00e4 tiatsyylien koordinaatiokemiaa. Ty\u00f6n toinen osa koostuu kokeellisesta tutkimuksesta, jonka p\u00e4\u00e4asiallinen tavoite oli valmistaa uusia tiatsyylipohjaisia radikaaleja sek\u00e4 koordinoida radikaaleja siirtym\u00e4metallikeskuksiin. Kokeellisessa osassa saatiin tulokseksi kaksi uutta radikaalia, joista toinen kuuluu laajaan 1,2,3,5-ditiadiatsolyylien ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n. Kyseinen radikaali osoittautui ominaisuuksiltaan hyvin samankaltaiseksi kuin muut jo aiemmin karakterisoidut ryhm\u00e4n j\u00e4senet. Toinen kokeellisessa ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 valmistettu radikaali oli fluorilla substituoitu ditiatsolotiadiatsinyyli. Vedyn korvaamisen fluorilla havaittiin johtavan muutoksiin molekyylin kiinte\u00e4n tilan pakkautumisessa. Valmistetun ditiatsolotiadiatsinyyn koordinoitumista kokeiltiin useamman metallin kanssa, mutta tutkimusprojektin aikana ei saatu karakterisoitua yht\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n koordinaatiokompleksia.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "Thiazyls are radicals built from organic moieties that nevertheless share some physical properties conventionally observed for inorganic solids and metal oxides. Since their discovery, electric and magnetic properties of thiazyls have caught significant attention and these odd-electron species have been used as building blocks in the development of molecular magnets and conductors. Furthermore, certain thiazyls present bistability and can be seen as prospective materials for molecular switches because a single radical unit can have two different magnetic states depending on the solid state packing. The latest developments in this research field have focused on thiazyl radicals capable of coordinating to transition metals and the complexes thus formed. The formation of metal complexes is expected to lead to enhanced magnetic properties as the unpaired electron on the radical unit can interact with those on the paramagnetic metal center.\r\nThis master\u00b4s thesis contains two parts. Part one is a literature review that summarizes the most recent developments in the field of radicals containing nitrogen and sulfur. The emphasis of the discussion is on the synthesis and properties of dithiadiazolyl and dithiazolyl radicals. In addition, coordination chemistry of thiazyl radicals is described. The second part of the thesis summarizes the results from experimental studies conducted during the thesis work. The main objective of the experimental work was to synthesize new thiazyl radicals and to study their coordination chemistry. Two completely new radicals were synthesized and comprehensively characterized. The first new radical is a member of a large family of 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyls with features similar to other members of the same class. The second new radical is a modified version of the parent dithiazolothiadiazinyl1 framework with a hydrogen atom replaced by fluorine, thereby inducing changes in the solid-state packing of the radical.
