Sosiaalista mediaa ja sen tiedonlouhintaa on tutkittu paljon, mutta tutkimukset ovat keskittyneet lähinnä siihen, millä tavoin tutkijat voivat hyö- dyntää sosiaalisen median tiedonlouhintaa. Vaihtoehtoisesti tutkimukset ovat keskittyneet yksittäiseen sosiaalisen median tiedonlouhinnan tuomaan hyötyyn tai esittäneet malleja tehokkaampaan sosiaalisen median hyödyntämiseen. Tä- mä kirjallisuuskatsauksena toteutettu kandidaatin tutkielma kokoaa sosiaalisen median tiedonlouhinnan tuomia hyötyjä yrityksille, ja tuo tällä tavoin uuden näkökulman asiaan. Tutkielmassa havaitaan, että yritykset voivat hyötyä useilla eri tavoilla sosiaalisen median tiedonlouhinnasta. Merkittävimpänä hyötynä mainitaan sosiaalinen asiakassuhteiden hallinta, joka oikein toteutettuna auttaa yrityksiä ymmärtämään asiakkaitaan paremmin. Asiakkaiden ymmärtäminen auttaa parantamaan asiakaskokemusta sekä tehostamaan brändin hallintaa ja markkinointia. Hyötyjen lisäksi tutkielmassa käsitellään sosiaalisen median tiedonlouhinnan tuomia haasteita yrityksille, joista merkittävimpinä mainitaan sen datan ominaisuuksia koskevat tekijät, palveluntarjoajien asettamia rajoitukset ja oikean tiedonlouhintatyökalun valinta. Social media popularity’s almost exponential growth in recent years has opened new business opportunities and markets to companies’. Social media and its data mining has been widely studied, but studies have focused primarily on the benefits of social media mining on the research point of view. Alternatively, studies have focused on a single benefit of social media mining or introduced models more efficient utilization of social media. This bachelor’s thesis, which is implemented as a literature review, brings together the benefits of social media mining to companies, and in this way, brings a new perspective on the subject. The thesis implicates that companies can benefit from social media in many ways. The most significant benefit is the social customer relationship management that, correctly implemented, helps companies to better understand their customers. Understanding customers helps improve customer experience and enhance brand management and marketing. In addition to the benefits, the thesis discusses about the challenges of social media mining for companies, the most important of which are the features of its data, the restrictions imposed by social media providers and the choice of the correct data mining tool.
