Opettajan auktoriteetin muodoista karismaattista auktoriteettia pidet\u00e4\u00e4n kaikkein t\u00e4rkeimp\u00e4n\u00e4. Auktoriteettinen opettaja voi saada luokan haltuun omalla luontaisella varmuudellaan. Kun auktoriteetti ei riit\u00e4, opettaja tarvitsee kurinpitokeinoja. Suomen perusopetuslain mukaan jokaisella oppilaalla on oikeus turvalliseen oppimisymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n. Opettajan velvollisuus on huolehtia ty\u00f6rauhan s\u00e4ilymisest\u00e4 luokassa. Yleisimpi\u00e4 ty\u00f6rauhaongelmia kouluissa ovat puhuminen ilman lupaa ja joutenolo. Opettaja voi pit\u00e4\u00e4 luokassa kuria esimerkiksi ilmein, elein, sanallisin vaatimuksin ja yhteisten pelis\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6jen avulla. Ty\u00f6rauhaongelmia voidaan ennaltaehk\u00e4ist\u00e4 monin tavoin, esimerkiksi virikkeellisell\u00e4 ja oppilaita aktivoivalla opetuksella. Biologista laborointia voidaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 oppilaita aktivoivana tutkivan oppimisen menetelm\u00e4n\u00e4. Kurinpidon vaikutusta oppimistuloksiin tutkittiin Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n Normaalikoulun kahdelle 7. luokalle j\u00e4rjestetyill\u00e4 oppitunneilla, joissa aiheena oli planktonin laborointi. Oppitunneilla perehdyttiin planktonin ja veden selk\u00e4rangattomien lajistoon, rakenteellisiin ominaisuuksiin ja elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ihin. Lis\u00e4ksi oppilaat tutustuivat biologisen tutkimuksen v\u00e4lineist\u00f6\u00f6n ja toteutukseen. Oppilaiden kanssa haettiin vesin\u00e4ytteit\u00e4 koulun l\u00e4hell\u00e4 sijainneesta lammesta. Luokassa oppilaat tutkivat omia vesin\u00e4ytteit\u00e4\u00e4n mikroskoopeilla. Toisessa luokassa opettaja piti kuria, toisessa kurinpito oli heikkoa. Molemmilla luokilla k\u00e4ytettiin samaa tuntisuunnitelmaa. Oppituntien lopuksi oppilaiden oppimista testattiin biologian v\u00e4likokeella. V\u00e4likokeessa oli teoriatietoon ja laborointiin liittyvi\u00e4 teht\u00e4vi\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi kysyttiin oppilaiden mielipiteit\u00e4 oppitunneista ja yleisesti kurinpidosta. Tutkimuksen tulosten mukaan oppilaat olivat menestyneet v\u00e4likokeen teoriatietoa mittaavissa teht\u00e4viss\u00e4 paremmin, kun opettaja piti luokassa kuria. Laborointiin liittyviss\u00e4 teht\u00e4viss\u00e4 oppilaat olivat menestyneet molemmilla luokilla yht\u00e4 hyvin. Oppilaiden sukupuolella ei ollut vaikutusta oppimistuloksiin. Molemmilla luokilla oppilaille oli j\u00e4\u00e4nyt oppitunneista p\u00e4\u00e4osin hyv\u00e4 vaikutelma ja he kokivat oppineensa oppitunnin asiat p\u00e4\u00e4osin hyvin. Oppilaat olivat kokeneet osallistuneensa ty\u00f6skentelyyn aktiivisemmin, kun opettaja piti luokassa kuria. Personal authority is the most important type of teacher\u2019s authority. Teacher with strong authority is able to have control over pupils with his own natural confidence. When authority is not enough teacher needs means of discipline. According to Finnish legislation every pupil has right for safe environment of studying. It is the teacher\u2019s responsibility to maintain peace while working in classroom. The most common types of misbehavior are speaking without permission and laziness. The teacher can maintain discipline by facial expressions, signs, demands and mutual rules. Problems in study peace can be prevented by teaching in a way that challenge and activate pupils. Biological laboratory work activates pupils and is one method of enquire-based learning. Effects of discipline in learning results was studied by organizing plankton laboratory work for two classes of 7th grade in the Teacher Training School in Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. The subjects for the classes were species, anatomy and living environment of plankton and aquatic invertebrates. The pupils also became acquainted with equipment and execution of biological investigation. Water samples were taken by the pupils from a pond near the school. The pupils were observing their own water samples by using microscopes. The teacher was maintaining strong discipline in one class and weaker discipline in the other one. Same kind of study plan was used in both classes. The pupils\u2019 learning was tested by a small exam at the end of the classes. The exam included theoretical questions and questions of laboratory work. In addition, the pupils were asked about their opinions on classes and discipline in general. According to this study pupils performed better in the theoretical questions when their teacher had maintained strong discipline. In the questions concerning laboratory work, both classes performed equally. Gender of the pupils did not have any effect on the learning results. In both cases the pupils had mostly good impression on the classes and they felt that they had learned mostly well. The pupils had a feeling that they were working more actively while the teacher was maintaining strong discipline.
