Eri menetelmist\u00e4 on koottu niiden toimintaperiaatteet, menetelmien ominaisuudet ja niiden soveltuvuus kivin\u00e4ytteiden alkuaineiden sek\u00e4 mineraalien m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4miseen. Erityisen huomion kohteena olivat rikkipitoiset mineraalit, sill\u00e4 ne ovat eritt\u00e4in t\u00e4rkeit\u00e4 malmimineraaleja. Kokeellisessa osassa mitattiin sulfidimineraalipitoisia kivin\u00e4ytteit\u00e4 laser-indusoidulla plasmaspektroskopialla. Mittauksilla m\u00e4\u00e4rittettiin kairasyd\u00e4nn\u00e4ytteen pinnan semikvantitatiivinen alkuainekoostumus sek\u00e4 mineraalikoostumus. Alkuainekoostumuksen m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4mist\u00e4 varten alkuaineille valittiin t\u00e4h\u00e4n n\u00e4ytematriisiin sopivat spektriviivat. N\u00e4ytteiden mineraalikoostumus m\u00e4\u00e4ritettiin luokittelemalla spektrit muodon perusteella pienin neli\u00f6summa- (PNS) ja p\u00e4\u00e4komponenttianalyysimenetelmill\u00e4 (PCA). \n\nMittaukset suoritettiin rikin atomiemission spektrialueilla, l\u00e4hi-infrapuna- (NIR) ja vakuumiultraviolettispektrialueilla (VUV), joissa j\u00e4lkimm\u00e4isell\u00e4 alueella metallien ja rikin emissiot ovat voimakkaampia. NIR-alue oli erityisen kiinnostuksen kohteena, sill\u00e4 sit\u00e4 voidaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 et\u00e4mittauksessa. Spektri\\-alueiden tuloksia verrattiin ja todettiin, ett\u00e4 NIR-alueelta voidaan parhaimmillaan tunnistaa sulfidimineraalit eroon toisistaan ja muista mineraaleista l\u00e4hes yht\u00e4 tarkasti kuin VUV-alueelta. My\u00f6s rikin, sinkin, kuparin, kalsiumin ja bariumin m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4minen eri spektrialueilta onnistui yht\u00e4 tarkasti, mutta kuparin kohdalla NIR:ss\u00e4 ja bariumin kohdalla VUV:ssa tarvittiin erillisi\u00e4 spektrikorjauksia. The operational principles and properties of different methods, and their applicability for the analysis of different elements and minerals were investigated. Sulfur containing minerals were explored more closely because of their importance in production of metals. In experimental part, sulfide mineral containing drill core samples were measured with laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. Semi-quantitative elemental composition and mineral composition of the drill core sample surface were obtained by spectral data processing. In order to determine the elemental composition, suitable emission lines for this sample matrix were determined for each measured element. The mineral composition was determined by classifying measured spectra by their shape with least squares fitting (LSQ) and principal component analysis (PCA).\n\nThe measurements were done at near infra-red (NIR, 800 - 1300 nm) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, 180 - 220 nm) spectral regions, which are the regions where strongest sulfur atom emission occur. The potential of these spectral regions to determine the elemental and mineral composition of samples were compared. In VUV-region sulfur and metal emission lines are more intense than in NIR-region, but only the latter of these can be used in remote measurement applications. NIR-region was found to function at its best as well as VUV-region to identify different sulfide minerals from another and from other minerals. Sulfur, zinc, copper, calcium and barium could be determined equally precisely from both spectral regions, but copper at NIR and barium at VUV required the use of separate spectral corrections. LSQ and PCA methods were found to function equally well on classifying the major minerals of the samples.
