Seksuaalikasvatuksella pyrit\u00e4\u00e4n lis\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tietoja, taitoja ja tasa-arvoa sek\u00e4 vaikuttamaan my\u00f6nteisesti seksuaaliterveyteen, joka rakentuu turvallisesta, nautinnollisesta ja tyydytt\u00e4v\u00e4st\u00e4 seksiel\u00e4m\u00e4st\u00e4 sek\u00e4 vastuullisesta seksuaalik\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisest\u00e4. Seksuaalikasvatuksen tulisi alkaa heti syntym\u00e4n j\u00e4lkeen ja jatkua l\u00e4pi el\u00e4m\u00e4n. Koulussa annettava seksuaaliopetus on t\u00e4rke\u00e4 osa seksuaalikasvatusta. Vuoden 2004 opetussuunnitelman perusteissa yl\u00e4koulun seksuaaliopetus sis\u00e4ltyy 7. ja 8. luokan terveystietoon sek\u00e4 9. luokan biologiaan, ja sen suunnittelun edellytet\u00e4\u00e4n tapahtuvan ainerajat ylitt\u00e4v\u00e4ll\u00e4 yhteisty\u00f6ll\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 yl\u00e4asteen biologian seksuaaliopetuksen vaikutusta oppilaiden seksuaaliterveystietoihin. Lis\u00e4ksi tavoitteena oli kartoittaa yl\u00e4asteen seksuaaliopetuksen ominaispiirteit\u00e4 sek\u00e4 biologian ja terveystiedon opettajien v\u00e4list\u00e4 yhteisty\u00f6t\u00e4 seksuaaliopetuksessa meneill\u00e4\u00e4n olleen opetussuunnitelmauudistuksen valossa. Tutkimus toteutettiin yhdess\u00e4 keskisuomalaisessa yl\u00e4koulussa, jonka kolmea biologian ja yht\u00e4 terveystiedon opettajaa haastateltiin, ja haastattelut analysoitiin kvalitatiivisesti. Kahdelle oppilasryhm\u00e4lle tehtiin seksuaaliterveystietojen mittaus lomakekyselyll\u00e4 ennen biologian seksuaaliopetusta, ja sama lomakekysely toistettiin oppituntien j\u00e4lkeen. Saatuja tuloksia analysoitiin kvantitatiivisesti. Tutkimuksen mukaan biologian ja terveystiedon sis\u00e4ll\u00f6iss\u00e4 on p\u00e4\u00e4llekk\u00e4isyyksi\u00e4, vaikka painotukset oppiaineiden v\u00e4lill\u00e4 vaihtelevat ja er\u00e4\u00e4t teemat sis\u00e4ltyv\u00e4t vain yhteen aineeseen. Opettajat kokivat p\u00e4\u00e4llekk\u00e4isyyden yksinomaan positiiviseksi asiaksi. Tutkimuksessa k\u00e4vi ilmi, ett\u00e4 biologian ja terveystiedon opettajien yhteisty\u00f6 seksuaaliopetuksessa on l\u00e4hestulkoon olematonta. Opettajat arvelivat yhteisty\u00f6n lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyv\u00e4n uuden opetussuunnitelman my\u00f6t\u00e4. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa sukupuoli tai seksuaalisuuden aihepiirien sukupuolittuneisuus ei juurikaan heijastunut oppilaiden seksuaaliterveystietoihin tai niiden muutoksiin. Tutkimuksen mukaan biologian oppitunneilla on my\u00f6nteinen vaikutus yhdeks\u00e4sluokkalaisten seksuaaliterveystietoihin erityisesti niiss\u00e4 aihepiireiss\u00e4, jotka painottuvat vain biologiaan sek\u00e4 niiss\u00e4, joita k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n sek\u00e4 biologiassa ett\u00e4 terveystiedossa. V\u00e4h\u00e4isi\u00e4 muutoksia havaittiin my\u00f6s oppilaiden arvoissa ja asenteissa biologian oppituntien my\u00f6t\u00e4. Timing and pace of sexual development varies individually, which challenges the sexual education. Sexual education aims to increase knowledge, skills and equality together with positive effect on sexual health that is built on safe, enjoyable and satisfying sex life and responsible sexual behavior. Sexual education should begin immediately after birth and continue throughout life. School teaching has important role in sexual education. In the 2004 national core curriculum guidelines the sexual education of secondary school is included in health education of 7th and 8th grade and biology of 9th grade and planning of it is required to take place in co-operation over subject boundaries. The aim of this study was to find out how does sexual education of biology of secondary school impact on pupil\u2019s sexual health knowledge. The other aim was to survey the characteristics of sexual education of secondary school and cooperation between biology and health education teachers in sexual education in the light of the ongoing curriculum reform. Study was carried out in one school in Central Finland. Three biology and one health education teachers were interviewed and interviews were analyzed qualitatively. Sexual health knowledge of two pupil groups was measured by questionnaire before sexual education of biology, and the same questionnaire was repeated after lessons. Obtained results were analyzed quantitatively. Results showed that contents of biology and health education overlapped although focus between subjects varies and some themes are included only in one subject. Teachers experienced overlaps to be solely positive matter. The study revealed that co-operation between biology and health education teachers in sexual education is almost nonexistent. Teachers supposed that co-operation will be intensified following the new curriculum. In this study gender or gendered nature of the themes related to sexuality hardly reflected in pupils\u2019 sexual health knowledge or in the changes of it. According to results biology lessons have positive impact on the sexual health knowledge of ninth graders especially in the themes that focus only on biology and in themes that are discussed both in biology and health education. Slight changes were detected also in pupils\u2019 values and attitudes along with biology lessons.
