N\u00e4iden ajatusten saattelemana sek\u00e4 opettajien ett\u00e4 median katseet ovat k\u00e4\u00e4ntyneet Pekka Peuran kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4n yksil\u00f6llisen oppimisen mallin suuntaan, miss\u00e4 tavoitteena on oppilaiden omistajuus omasta oppimisestaan. T\u00e4m\u00e4 opetusmalli perustuu tavoiteoppimisen, omatahtisen oppimisen sek\u00e4 autonomian k\u00e4sitteisiin, joiden perusajatus on oppilaiden yksil\u00f6llisyys sek\u00e4 aktiivinen toimijuus.\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen ensisijaisena tavoitteena oli perehty\u00e4 siihen kuinka yksil\u00f6llisen oppimisen ajatuksia on toteutettu englannin kielen opetuksessa. Tavoitteena oli my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 mallia soveltavien opettajien syit\u00e4 opetuksen yksil\u00f6llist\u00e4miseen sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n mielipiteit\u00e4ns\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4n mallin hyvist\u00e4 ja huonoista puolista. Lis\u00e4ksi olin kiinnostunut siit\u00e4 kuinka opettajat kokivat ett\u00e4 heid\u00e4n oppilaat, n\u00e4iden vanhemmat, sek\u00e4 kollegat ja rehtorit olivat suhtautuneet n\u00e4ihin kokeiluihin. Tutkimusta l\u00e4hdettiin toteuttamaan laadullisena tutkimuksena, miss\u00e4 keskityttiin viiden englannin opettajan kokemuksiin yksil\u00f6llisest\u00e4 oppimisesta. Aineistoa ker\u00e4ttiin analysoimalla blogitekstej\u00e4, haastatteluilla sek\u00e4 havainnoimalla er\u00e4\u00e4n haastateltavan oppitunteja.\nTutkimukseen osallistuneet opettajat suhtautuivat positiivisesti yksil\u00f6llisen oppimisen menetelm\u00e4\u00e4n, joskin he kaikki my\u00f6nsiv\u00e4t toteutuksistaan l\u00f6ytyv\u00e4n puutteita. Osallistuneiden opettajien mukaan sek\u00e4 he ett\u00e4 heid\u00e4n oppilaansa pitiv\u00e4t omatahtista oppimista menetelm\u00e4n parhaana puolena niin nopeiden kuin hitaidenkin oppilaiden kannalta, vaikka omatahtisuus oli joidenkin oppilaiden kanssa ollut ongelmallista. Oppilaiden lis\u00e4\u00e4ntynytt\u00e4 vastuunkantoa omasta oppimisestaan pidettiin my\u00f6s eritt\u00e4in positiivisena, joskin todettiin, ett\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 vaatii oppilailta melko paljon ty\u00f6t\u00e4. Tutkimuksessa tulee my\u00f6s ilmi menetelm\u00e4n merkitys opettajien kannalta, sill\u00e4 osallistuneet opettajat kokivat ty\u00f6st\u00e4ns\u00e4 tulleen mielekk\u00e4\u00e4mp\u00e4\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4n menetelm\u00e4n my\u00f6t\u00e4. Syiksi t\u00e4h\u00e4n muutokseen nimettiin sek\u00e4 l\u00e4heisemm\u00e4t v\u00e4lit oppilaiden kanssa ett\u00e4 vapautuminen taulusta ja tietokoneesta sek\u00e4 perinteisest\u00e4 luokanhallinnasta. Joidenkin oppilaiden kohdalla motivaation ja/tai keskittymiskyvyn puute olivat kuitenkin osoittautuneet ongelmiksi. Lis\u00e4ksi opetusmallin muutos oli osoittautunut melko ty\u00f6l\u00e4\u00e4ksi ja aikaaviev\u00e4ksi. Kokemukset vanhempien, kollegoiden sek\u00e4 rehtorin kanssa olivat olleet melko rajallisia. Oman koulun kollegoiden lis\u00e4ksi oli tukea kokeiluihin ja kehitt\u00e4miseen haettu sosiaalisen median kautta.
