My\u00f6sk\u00e4\u00e4n tilanteen korjaamiseksi aloitetut kieliohjelmat eiv\u00e4t ole onnistuneet vaikuttamaan toivotusti pitk\u00e4ll\u00e4 aikav\u00e4lill\u00e4.\r\n\r\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tutkia asiaa opiskelumotivaation n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Motivaatiolla on todettu olevan my\u00f6nteinen vaikutus oppimistuloksiin, joten sen ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4minen antaa mahdollisuuksia tukea oppijoita ja heid\u00e4n tarpeitaan.\r\n\r\nTutkimus toteutettiin kyselyn\u00e4, johon osallistui 109 suomenkielist\u00e4 koulua k\u00e4yv\u00e4\u00e4 lukiolaista eri puolilta Suomea. Vastaajista 72 opiskeli tutkimushetkell\u00e4 pelk\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n englantia ja ruotsia. N\u00e4it\u00e4 opiskelijoita pyydettiin nime\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n t\u00e4rkeimm\u00e4t syyt, jotka vaikuttivat heid\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kseens\u00e4 olla opiskelematta vieraita kieli\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi kyselyss\u00e4 kysyttiin kaikilta vastaajilta kielten opiskelumahdollisuuksista n\u00e4iden koulu-uralla sek\u00e4 erilaisista motivaatiota lis\u00e4\u00e4vist\u00e4 ja v\u00e4hent\u00e4vist\u00e4 tekij\u00f6ist\u00e4 sek\u00e4 kartoitettiin opiskelijoiden mielipidett\u00e4 englannin kielen asemasta. Kysely koostui taustakysymyksist\u00e4, monivalintakysymyksist\u00e4 sek\u00e4 kahdesta avoimesta kysymyksest\u00e4.\r\n\r\nYleisimm\u00e4t syyt p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kseen olla valitsematta ylim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4isi\u00e4 kieli\u00e4 (tai lopettaa jo aloitetut opinnot) olivat kiinnostuksen ja ajan puute sek\u00e4 kielten opiskelun vaikeus ja aiemmat negatiiviset kokemukset. Vieraskieliset mediasis\u00e4ll\u00f6t, onnistumisen kokemukset ja kielten hy\u00f6dyllisyys opiskelijan arjessa tai tulevaisuudessa olivat voimakkaita motivaattoreita, kuten my\u00f6s matkustelu ja kontaktit vieraiden kielten puhujiin.
