K\u00e4tisyyden tai jalkaisuuden vakiintumisella tarkoitetaan sit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 lapsi suorittaa karkeamotorisia teht\u00e4vi\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en systemaattisesti saman puolen k\u00e4tt\u00e4 tai jalkaa vaihtamatta niit\u00e4 suoritusten v\u00e4liss\u00e4. Voidaan puhua my\u00f6s lateraalisuudesta, joka tarkoittaa tietoisuutta kehon eri puolista, oikeasta ja vasemmasta (S\u00e4\u00e4kslahti 2003).\r\n\r\nTutkimuksen koehenkil\u00f6in\u00e4 olivat 186 5\u20137-vuotiasta lasta Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n ja Savonlinnan p\u00e4iv\u00e4kodeista ja kouluista. Lapset suorittivat Test of Gross Motor Development Third Edition (TGMD-3) -testist\u00f6n 13 erilaista karkeamotorista liikuntateht\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4, ja suoritukset videoitiin. Lapsi suoritti kunkin teht\u00e4v\u00e4n kaksi kertaa per\u00e4kk\u00e4in. Videoaineiston avulla liikuntateht\u00e4v\u00e4t arvioitiin ja pisteytettiin kriteerien perusteella. N\u00e4ist\u00e4 teht\u00e4vist\u00e4 valitsimme t\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkimukseen tarkasteltaviksi seitsem\u00e4n teht\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 (konkkaus, kahden k\u00e4den mailasivuly\u00f6nti, yhden k\u00e4den k\u00e4mmenly\u00f6nti, pallon pompotus, potku, yliolanheitto ja aliolanheitto), joista analysoimme lapsen k\u00e4den tai jalan vakiintuneisuutta kahdessa per\u00e4kk\u00e4isess\u00e4 testisuorituksessa. Lateraalisuutta eli k\u00e4den/jalan k\u00e4yt\u00f6n vakiintuneisuutta havainnoitiin sill\u00e4, vaihtoiko lapsi suoritusten v\u00e4liss\u00e4 k\u00e4tt\u00e4/jalkaa. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen aineiston analysoinnissa k\u00e4ytimme IBM SPSS Statistics 22 -ohjelmaa. Aineisto kuvaillaan prosenttien lis\u00e4ksi muuttujien keskiarvoilla (ka) ja keskihajonnoilla (kh). Lis\u00e4ksi k\u00e4ytettiin t-testi\u00e4, ristiintaulukointia, Khin neli\u00f6testi\u00e4, monisuuntaista varianssianalyysia (ANOVA) sek\u00e4 post hoc -testin\u00e4 Tukeyn HSD -testi\u00e4.\r\n\r\nTulosten mukaan 5\u20137-vuotiaiden lasten k\u00e4den/jalan k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 oli sit\u00e4 vakiintuneempaa, mit\u00e4 vanhempia he olivat, vaikka Khin neli\u00f6testin mukaan i\u00e4ll\u00e4 ja k\u00e4den/jalan vakiintumisella ei ollutkaan tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 riippuvuutta (p = 0.481). 5-vuotiaiden lasten kohdalla k\u00e4den/jalan k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 oli vakiintunutta 53%:lla, 6-vuotiailla 59%:lla ja 7-vuotiailla 65%:lla. Tarkasteltaessa kaikkia lapsia yhdess\u00e4 kokonaispistem\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 kaikista seitsem\u00e4st\u00e4 liikuntateht\u00e4v\u00e4st\u00e4 oli korkeampi silloin, kun k\u00e4den/jalan k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 oli vakiintunutta. Tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti k\u00e4den/jalan vakiintunut k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 oli yhteydess\u00e4 teht\u00e4vien kokonaispisteisiin 5-vuotiailla lapsilla (p = 0.004). Konkkauksesta, kahden k\u00e4den mailasivuly\u00f6nniss\u00e4 k\u00e4sien asennon osalta (eli kumpi k\u00e4si oli mailassa ylemp\u00e4n\u00e4), yhden k\u00e4den k\u00e4mmenly\u00f6nnist\u00e4 ja potkusta saadut kokonaispisteet olivat korkeammat, mik\u00e4li k\u00e4den/jalan k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 oli vakiintunutta, mutta Tukeyn HSD -testin mukaan yhteys ei ollut kuitenkaan tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4 (p > 0.05). By laterality, we mean that the child uses the same hand or foot between the first and second attempt in gross motor skill tasks. Laterality also means that the child recognizes and is aware of the right and left sides of the body (S\u00e4\u00e4kslahti 2003).\r\n\r\nThe participants in this study were from schools and daycare centers in Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 and Savonlinna. The children performed the Test of Gross Motor Development Third Edition (TGMD-3), which consists of tasks for 13 different gross motor skills, and the performances were videotaped. Children performed each task twice. By using video material, children\u2019s performances were scored by criteria. For this study, seven tasks (hop, two-hand strike, one-hand strike, dribbling, kick, over-hand throw, and under-hand throw) were selected, because in all of the aforementioned skills usually one of the hands or one of the feet is used more. Laterality was analyzed by observing whether the child changed the hand or foot between the first and second trial. The data were analyzed by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 22 Program. Percentages, average values, standard deviation, t-test, cross tabulation, Chi-square test, variance analysis (ANOVA), and Tukey\u2019s HSD -test were used to analyze the data.\r\n\r\nThe laterality in 5\u20137 year old children was more established among older children, although Chi-square tests indicated that the relationship between age and laterality was not statistically significant (p = 0.481). Children who showed laterality in their performances gained higher points in overall gross motor skill total scores (seven tasks). In 5-year-old children, the relationship between using the same hand or the same foot in the first and second trial of the task and gross motor skill total score was statistically significant (p = 0.004). The scores in hop, two-hand strike (position of hands), one-hand strike, and kick were higher in those children who showed laterality in their performances. However, the Tukey\u2019s HSD test indicated that the relationship was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The only gross motor skill in which the performance scores were statistically significantly related to laterality was one-hand strike (p = 0.017).\r\n\r\nBased on the results of this study, it can be recommended to offer children multiple physical activities in which they have to use both sides of their bodies.
