Tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin urheilun sponsorointia yhden lajin, taitoluistelun, näkökulmasta. Tutkielmassa selvitettiin, millainen mahdollinen sponsoroinnin kohde taitoluistelu on ja miksi. Tavoitteena oli tuottaa urheilusponsorointiin liittyvää tieteellistä tietoa uudenlaisesta näkökulmasta ja tarjota samalla Suomen Taitoluisteluliitto ry:lle hyödyllinen katsaus taitoluistelun tilanteeseen. Tutkielmassa perehdyttiin aiempaan kirjallisuuteen niin sponsoroinnin kuin taitoluistelunkin osalta sekä selvitettiin, mikä aiemman tutkimuksen mukaan tekee sponsoroinnin kohteesta sopivan. Tutkielman empiirinen osuus toteutettiin laadullisena haastattelututkimuksena. Haastatteluihin valittiin kahdeksan yritystä, joilla oletettiin olevan samansuuntainen kohderyhmä taitoluistelun kanssa ja joiden nähtiin näin olevan lajin potentiaalisia sponsoreita. Yrityksiltä tiedusteltiin yleisesti sponsoroinnin merkitystä ja tavoitteita sekä ajatuksia taitoluistelusta. Pääasiallisena tehtävänä oli kerätä tietoa siitä, kuinka taitoluistelu mahdollisena kohteena vastaa heidän tavoitteisiinsa. Tutkimuksen perusteella taitoluistelu on imagonsa puolesta sopiva sponsoroinnin kohde, mutta sen näkyvyys ei riitä vastaamaan yritysten tarpeisiin. Lajin uusien sukupolvien tuntemus on heikkoa, eikä lajin uskota tavoittavan riittävän suuria massoja. Taitoluistelun tavoittamia kohderyhmiä ei tiedetä riittävän tarkasti. Käytännön mahdollisuuksien osalta taitoluistelu nähdään positiivisessa valossa, mutta konkreettisen yhteistyön sisällön suunnittelussa tarvitaan lajin edustajien aktiivista otetta. Kokonaisuudessa taitoluistelulla on vielä kehitettävää ollakseen monipuolisesti sopiva spon- soroinnin kohde. Lisäksi jokaisella yrityksellä on omanlaisensa tavoitteet sponsoroinnin suhteen, mikä on otettava huomioon yhteistyön sisältöjä suunniteltaessa. Hyödyntämällä esiin nousseita vahvuuksia ja kehittämällä heikkouksia mahdollisuuksien mukaan on taitoluistelulla hyvät edellytykset vielä paremmaksi sponsoroinnin kohteeksi. Salmijärvi, S. 2016. The purpose of this study was to figure out, what kind of possible sponsee figure skating is in sponsorship and why. The study aimed to produce academic information from a new perspective and offer useful knowledge about figure skating to Finnish Figure Skating Association. The theoretical background of this study was based on previous literature of sponsorship and figure skating and the aim was to figure out, what makes sport or other party a good sponsee. The empirical part was conducted as a qualitative research with interviews. As the interviewees it was chosen eight companies, which were supposed to have similar target audience as figure skating has and so assumed to be potential sponsors of the sport. The companies were asked about the meaning and objectives of sponsoring and thoughts about figure skating. The main aim was to gather information about how well figure skating as a possible sponsee corresponds to the objectives of the companies. Results of this study revealed that figure skating is a convenient sponsee by its image, but its visibility does not apply to the needs of companies. Potential sponsors think that figure skating reaches too small amount of people and recognition of the new generation within the sport is weak. Companies do not have precise knowledge of the target audiences of figure skating. In terms of practical opportunities figure skating as a sponsorship partner is seen in positive light, but active actions from the actors within the sport are needed for planning the concrete content of sponsorship. As a whole figure skating still has steps to take in order to be a diversely convenient sponsee. In addition, every company has its own objectives in sponsoring, which must be taken in to account when planning contents of sponsorship. By utilizing strengths appeared and turning weaknesses as opportunities figure skating has good prerequisitions for being even better partner in sponsorship.
