Lajien tuntemus auttaa ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n biodiversiteetin eli luonnon monimuotoisuuden eri puolia, lajien evolutiivista historiaa ja kehityst\u00e4, ja ennen kaikkea kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen periaatteita ja tavoitteita s\u00e4ilytt\u00e4\u00e4 luonto ennallaan tuleville sukupolville. Lajintuntemuksessa on kyse paitsi yleissivistyksest\u00e4, my\u00f6s yhteydest\u00e4 luontoon ja luonnon monimuotoisuuden arvostuksesta. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tutkia Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston Opettajankoulutuslaitoksen luokanopettajaopiskelijoiden lajintuntemustaitoja sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n asenteitaan ja valmiuksiaan opettaa lajintuntemusta alakoulussa. Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n opiskelijoiden kokemuksia Opettajankoulutuslaitoksessa saamastaan lajintuntemuksen opetuksesta. Tutkimusmenetelmin\u00e4 olivat lajintuntemustesti sek\u00e4 kirjallinen kysely, jonka avulla mitattiin 36 luokanopettajaopiskelijan motivaatiota lajintuntemuksen opettamiseksi, opiskelijoiden asenteita lajintuntemuksen opettamista kohtaan sek\u00e4 opiskelijoiden valmiuksia opettaa kasvien, selk\u00e4rangattomien, selk\u00e4rankaisten ja sienten lajintuntemusta. Tutkimuksessa selvisi, ett\u00e4 luokanopettajaopiskelijoiden lajintuntemustaidot ovat kohtalaiset. Opiskelijat ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4v\u00e4t lajintuntemuksen opettamisen kuuluvan alakouluun, opiskelijat pit\u00e4v\u00e4t lajien tuntemuksen opettamista t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4, mutta opiskelijoiden motivaatio opettaa lajintuntemusta on melko alhainen. Opiskelijat arvioivat valmiutensa opettaa lajintuntemusta alakoulussa kohtalaisiksi. Selk\u00e4rankaisten lajintuntemuksen opetuksessa opiskelijat arvioivat olevan vahvimmillaan, kun taas selk\u00e4rangattomien lajintuntemuksen opetusvalmiudet arvioitiin heikoimmiksi. Sienten ja kasvien lajintuntemuksen opettamisvalmiudet opiskelijat arvioivat kohtalaisiksi. Opiskelijoiden valmiusarvioiden ja lajintuntemustestiss\u00e4 saatujen pistesummien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei ollut korrelaatiota. Yliopistossa saamansa lajintuntemukseen liittyv\u00e4n opetuksen opiskelijat arvioivat oman tulevan opettajuutensa kannalta melko hy\u00f6dytt\u00f6m\u00e4ksi. Opetuksen puute sai opiskelijoilta paljon kritiikki\u00e4 ja opetuksen puute oli jopa laskenut joidenkin opiskelijoiden motivaatiota opettaa lajintuntemusta. Tutkimuksen tulosten perusteella Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston Opettajankoulutuslaitoksen lajintuntemusopetus on heikolla tasolla, lajintuntemuksen opettelu on t\u00e4ysin opiskelijoiden omalla vastuulla, eiv\u00e4tk\u00e4 opiskelijat saa opintojensa aikana ker\u00e4tty\u00e4 riitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 lajituntemusta tulevaa opettajuuttaan varten. Nyt jos koskaan on Opettajankoulutuslaitoksella syyt\u00e4 alkaa kouluttaa luokanopettajaopiskelijoista p\u00e4tevi\u00e4 osaajia lajintuntemuksen saralla ja taata heille ansaitsemansa laadukas opetus Suomen lajiston tuntemuksesta.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "To understand biology, the actual natural science, the focus is on species knowledge, since it helps to understand many essential branches in biology, such as ecology and evolutionary biology. Species knowledge allows to understand biodiversity and the many shades of it, the species\u2019 evolutionary history and development and, perhaps most important of all, sustainable development, its principles and ambitions to preserve nature as it is for future generations to come. Species identification is not only about general knowledge, but also about the connection to nature and the valuation of nature\u2019s diversity. The aim of this study was to investigate 36 teacher students\u2019 species identification skills and also their attitudes and readiness to teach species identification at primary school. The students at the Department of Teacher Education were studied at the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. Another objective was also to investigate teacher students\u2019 experiences about the species identification teaching at their department. The methods used in this study were species identification test and a survey that was used to measure both teacher students\u2019 motivation and attitudes towards teaching species identification. Survey also measured students\u2019 readiness to teach species identification of plants, vertebrates, invertebrates and mushrooms. Study revealed that students do understand that teaching species identification does belong at primary school, students do think species identification is important and their motivation to teach species identification is rather high. Students estimated their readiness to teach species identification in primary school moderate, as the readiness to teach vertebrate species identification was estimated the strongest and invertebrate species identification the weakest. Readiness to teach plant and mushroom species identification was estimated moderate. However, teacher students\u2019 species identification skills revealed to be quite poor. There were no correlation between the species identification test results and teacher students\u2019 perceptions of their own skills to teach species identification. The species identification teaching for teacher students was indicated quite useless, as the total lack of teaching gathered a lot of criticism and it even lowered some students\u2019 motivation towards the subject. Results state that the species identification teaching at the Department of Teacher Education is at a very low level since students are expected to study the subject on their own. Considering students\u2019 future profession, unqualified teaching in species knowledge at university won\u2019t bear valid primary school teachers with proficient species identification skills.
