Er\u00e4s avain t\u00e4m\u00e4n tavoitteen saavuttamiseen on tutkivan oppimisen menetelm\u00e4. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa selvitettiin tutkivan oppimisen mahdollisuuksia tukea oppilaan oppimista ja opiskelua kemian opetuksessa. Menetelm\u00e4\u00e4n perehdyttiin my\u00f6s k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 sen soveltamisessa koettujen haasteiden ja arvioinnin n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmista.\r\n\r\nTutkiva oppiminen jaetaan yleisesti nelj\u00e4\u00e4n tasoon (vahvistaminen, j\u00e4sennelty, ohjattu ja avoin tutkiva oppiminen) sen mukaan miten paljon opetuksessa sovelletaan tutkimuksellisuutta osana perinteisempi\u00e4 metodeja. Kirjallisuudesta k\u00e4vi ilmi, ett\u00e4 erityisesti tutkivan oppimisen ylemm\u00e4t tasot (ohjattu ja avoin tutkiva oppiminen) olivat potentiaalisempia kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n oppilasta oppijana sek\u00e4 motivoimaan opiskeluun. Lis\u00e4ksi havaittiin, ett\u00e4 kaikilla tasoilla oppilaiden viihtyminen opetuksessa paranee merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti.\r\n\r\nTutkielman osana toteutettiin haastattelututkimus kuudelle yl\u00e4koulun oppilaalle ja yhdelle opettajalle. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli edelleen kartoittaa tutkivan oppimisen mahdollisuuksia kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 oppilasta oppijana sek\u00e4 kohottaa oppilaan motivaatiota ja viihtymist\u00e4 opetuksessa. Lis\u00e4ksi haettiin lis\u00e4\u00e4 n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 menetelm\u00e4n k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n soveltamiseen. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 osassa etsittiin my\u00f6s eroja tutkivan oppimisen eri tasojen v\u00e4lill\u00e4. \r\n\r\nTehtyjen havaintojen perusteella oppilaat kokivat viihtyv\u00e4ns\u00e4 opetuksessa hyvin kaikilla tutkivan oppimisen tasoilla. Muuten alempien tasojen (vahvistamien ja j\u00e4sennelty tutkiva oppiminen) mahdollisuudet oppilaan oppimisen ja opiskelun tukemisessa olivat rajalliset verrattuna ylempiin tasoihin. Tutkimuksen aineistoon pohjaten ohjattu ja avoin tutkiva oppiminen onnistui erityisesti kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n oppilaita opitun ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misess\u00e4 ja kohottamaan heid\u00e4n motivaatiotaan. Menetelm\u00e4n k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n soveltaminen osoittautui haastavaksi, etenkin ylemmill\u00e4 tasoilla, joilla haasteita kohdattiin enemm\u00e4n verrattuna alempiin tasoihin.
