Suullisten taitojen arvostus ei ole kuitenkaan juuri n\u00e4kynyt k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 kielten kurssisis\u00e4ll\u00f6iss\u00e4; suurena syyn\u00e4 t\u00e4h\u00e4n on suullisen osuuden puuttuminen kielten ylioppilaskokeista.\n\nSuomessa sek\u00e4 englannin \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetus ett\u00e4 sen tutkiminen ovat j\u00e4\u00e4neet v\u00e4hemm\u00e4lle huomiolle. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, miten yliopiston englanninopiskelijat mielt\u00e4v\u00e4t englannin \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misopetuksen entisiss\u00e4 lukioissaan. Tutkimuskysymykset koskivat \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetusta yleisesti, opettajien \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4mist\u00e4 ja opetusmetodeja, koulussa ja sen ulkopuolella tapahtuvaa oppimista sek\u00e4 foneemisen kirjoituksen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi vastaajilta kysyttiin mielipiteit\u00e4 ylioppilaskokeen suullisesta osiosta ja suullisten kurssien lis\u00e4\u00e4misest\u00e4 lukion opetussuunnitelmaan. Tutkimus toteutettiin kyselyn\u00e4, johon vastasi 29 Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston opiskelijaa. Vastauksista laskettiin prosentuaaliset osuudet ja ne muutettiin taulukoiksi SPSS-ohjelmistolla.\n\nTuloksista k\u00e4y ilmi, ett\u00e4 opiskelijat olisivat halunneet enemm\u00e4n ja parempaa \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetusta. Opettajien \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4miseen oltiin tyytyv\u00e4isi\u00e4, vaikkakaan ne eiv\u00e4t toimineet malleina opiskelijoiden omalle \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4mykselle. Opettajien \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen testaamista opettajankoulutuksessa kannatettiin. \u00c4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetuksessa k\u00e4ytetyt metodit olivat usein perinteisi\u00e4 ja mekaanisia. Enemmist\u00f6 vastaajista oli oppinut \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4mist\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n koulun ulkopuolella kuin koulussa. \u00c4\u00e4nt\u00e4mist\u00e4 ei ollut rohkaistu harjoittelemaan vapaa-ajalla eik\u00e4 siihen ollut annettu tarpeeksi mahdollisuuksia oppitunneilla. Foneemista kirjoitusta ei ollut hy\u00f6dynnetty tarpeeksi ja sen k\u00e4yt\u00f6n hy\u00f6dyllisyydest\u00e4 oltiin ep\u00e4varmoja. Suullisten kurssien lis\u00e4\u00e4miseen ja ylioppilaskokeen suulliseen osaan suhtauduttiin my\u00f6nteisesti ja n\u00e4iden sis\u00e4ll\u00f6iss\u00e4 toivottiin painotettavan enemm\u00e4n oman tuottamista ja keskustelutaitoja.
