Kentt\u00e4riippumattomuutta ja -riippuvaisuutta on tutkittu aina 2010 luvulle saakka. Kansainv\u00e4lisi\u00e4 tutkimustuloksia l\u00f6ytyy aiheeseen liittyen runsaastikin, mutta Suomessa aihetta ei ole juurikaan tutkittu soveltavan kielitieteen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Tutkimukset kentt\u00e4riippuvaisuudesta ja -riippumattomuudesta antavat viitteit\u00e4 siihen, ett\u00e4 t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kognitiivisen ajattelun mallilla saattaa olla suurikin vaikutus oppilaiden oppimismenestykseen. Kentt\u00e4riippumattomat oppilaat ovat aiempien tutkimusten mukaan itsen\u00e4isempi\u00e4, havaitsevat ja l\u00f6yt\u00e4v\u00e4t ratkaisuja ongelmiin joustavasti ja oppivat parhaiten itsen\u00e4isesti. Kentt\u00e4riippuvaiset oppilaat taas oppivat parhaiten ryhm\u00e4ss\u00e4 keskustellen muiden kanssa, hy\u00f6tyv\u00e4t opettajan ohjauksesta enemm\u00e4n ja suoriutuvat vaivattomammin loogisesta ja rakenteeltaan selke\u00e4st\u00e4 teht\u00e4v\u00e4nannosta.\r\n\r\nTutkimuksessani halusin tutkia miten t\u00e4m\u00e4 ilmi\u00f6 n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyy suomalaisen alakoulun viidennen luokan englannin kielen oppimistuloksissa. Tutkimuksessani tein alustavaa selvityst\u00e4 siit\u00e4 korreloiko kognitiivinen ajattelutapa (kentt\u00e4riippuvuus, -riippumattomuus) oppilaiden englannin kielen koemenestyksen kanssa ja kuinka koko oppilaspopulaatiota voidaan ohjeistaa, jotta mahdolliset oppimisen esteet poistuisivat ja jotta oppilaat p\u00e4\u00e4sisiv\u00e4t hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n koko oppimispotentiaaliaan. Toteutin tutkimukseni neliosaisena kyselyn\u00e4, joka koostui kahdenlaisista hahmottamisteht\u00e4vist\u00e4, joiden avulla kohdensin oppilaat joko kentt\u00e4riippumattomiksi tai -riippuvaisiksi, sek\u00e4 kahdesta kyselyosiosta. Kyselyosioissa pyrin selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n ilmeneek\u00f6 oppilaissa kognitiivisille ajattelutavoille tyypillisi\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymismalleja.\r\n\r\nTutkimustulokset antavat viitteit\u00e4 siihen, ett\u00e4 kentt\u00e4riippuvuus korreloi englannin kielen oppimismenestyksen kanssa, mutta oppilaiden vastaukset kysymyksiin koskien kognitiivisille ajattelutavoille tyypillisi\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymismalleja olivat vahvasti tulkinnanvaraisia. Tulokset antoivat kuitenkin viitteit\u00e4 siihen, ett\u00e4 kentt\u00e4riippuvaiset oppilaat implementoivat mieluusti opiskelumetodeja, joissa heill\u00e4 on mahdollisimman v\u00e4h\u00e4n h\u00e4iri\u00f6tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 ja riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti aikaa oppimiseen, kun taas kentt\u00e4riippuvaiset oppijat n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyiv\u00e4t joustavampina oppijoina ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ns\u00e4 suhteen. Tutkimustulokset eiv\u00e4t olleet lopullisia, mutta aiheella on mahdollisesti suuri merkitys opetusk\u00e4yt\u00e4nteisiin \u2013 oppituntien suunnittelusta koetilanteiden suunnitteluun.
