Ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6nsuojeluun ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6kasvatukseen liittyvien teemojen rinnalla alettiin puhua 1980-luvun lopulla kest\u00e4v\u00e4st\u00e4 kehityksest\u00e4, jonka keskeisin ajatus on tyydytt\u00e4\u00e4 nykyhetken tarpeet viem\u00e4tt\u00e4 kuitenkaan tulevilta sukupolvilta mahdollisuutta tyydytt\u00e4\u00e4 omat tarpeensa. Koulutus on avainasemassa kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen mukaiseen el\u00e4m\u00e4ntapaan oppimisessa. T\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 menossa olevassa perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteiden uudistamisty\u00f6ss\u00e4 kantavana ajatuksena on tukea koulujen toimintaa kest\u00e4v\u00e4n tulevaisuuden rakentamisessa. Perusopetuksessa on tavoitteena tunnistaa kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen ja ekososiaalisen sivistyksen v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6myys, toimia sen mukaisesti ja ohjata oppilaita kest\u00e4v\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavan omaksumiseen. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin Salmen koulun nykytilaa kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen suhteen, yhdeks\u00e4nnen luokan oppilaiden ja opettajien asenteita kest\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 kehityst\u00e4 kohtaan sek\u00e4 keskeisi\u00e4 n\u00e4k\u00f6kohtia kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen toimintaohjelman laatimiseksi Salmen kouluun. Menetelmin\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin kysely\u00e4 oppilaille ja opettajille ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n ja kest\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4n kehitykseen liittyvien arvojen ja asenteiden tutkimiseen sek\u00e4 kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen kartoituslomakkeita koulun arkik\u00e4yt\u00e4nt\u00f6jen selvitt\u00e4misen tueksi. Tutkimuksen tuloksista ilmeni, ett\u00e4 oppilaiden keskuudessa olisi tarvetta luontosuhteen henkiin her\u00e4tt\u00e4miselle, sill\u00e4 ainoastaan henkil\u00f6kohtainen suhde luontoon mahdollistaa kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen mukaisen el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavan vaalimisen. Opettajat suhtautuivat selv\u00e4sti oppilaita my\u00f6nteisemmin ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n ja kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen edist\u00e4miseen liittyviin asioihin. Opettajien positiiviset ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6asenteet pit\u00e4\u00e4 vain saada siirretty\u00e4 osaksi opetusta ja koulun arkik\u00e4yt\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen valossa my\u00f6s yksi merkitt\u00e4vimmist\u00e4 kehityksen kohteista on koulun piha-alue, joka on t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 virikkeet\u00f6n asfalttikentt\u00e4. Kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen toimintaohjelman laatimiseen ei ole t\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen perusteella esteit\u00e4 Salmen koulussa. Kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen kartoituksesta n\u00e4kyy se, ett\u00e4 osa koulun arkik\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ist\u00e4 on jo kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen ajatusten mukaisia. Sustainable development appeared to general discussion in the late 1980\u00b4s along with themes related to environmental protection and environmental education. The sustainable development stands for meeting the needs of the present generations without preventing the ability of futures generations to meet their own needs. Education is in a key position to guide people to the way of sustainable life. Currently the reformation of the national core curriculum for basic education is in progress with the core idea to support schools in building a sustainable future. The objective of basic education is to identify the necessity of sustainable development and eco-social education, to work accordingly and to guide pupils to take the way to the sustainable life. The present study focused on the current state of the Salme School from a sustainable development perspective, attitudes of the pupils in the ninth grade and the teachers to sustainable development, as well as key aspects to build a program of sustainable development for the Salme School. An inquiry for the pupils and teachers was used as the method to find out values and attitudes to natural environment and sustainable development and to survey daily practices at the school. The results showed that the nature relationship of pupils should be recreated, because only a personal relationship with nature makes it possible to cherish the sustainable way of life. The teachers had clearly more positive attitude to the environment -and the promotion of sustainable development than the pupils. The positive attitudes of the teachers should be transferred to their teaching and daily practices at the school. According to this study, one of the most important development targets is the school yard, which is currently uninspiring asphalt course. There are no obstacles to draw up a program of sustainable development for the Salme School. The present survey showed the fact that part of the daily practices at the school already conform to the ideas of sustainable development.
