Liikuntakasvatuksen laitos, Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopisto, Liikuntapedagogiikan pro gradu \u2013tutkielma, 58 s.\r\n\r\nSuomalaisten nuorten liikuntaharrastuneisuus on lis\u00e4\u00e4ntynyt vuosikymmenten saatossa (Kansallinen liikuntatutkimus 2010). T\u00e4m\u00e4 ei ole kuitenkaan lis\u00e4nnyt fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta (WHO Europa 2008; WHO 2010). Nuorten liikuntaharrastusten ja fyysisen aktiivisuuden tutkiminen on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4, jotta voitaisiin tukea nuorten liikkumista oikeissa kohderyhmiss\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 8.- ja 9.-luokkalaisten liikuntaharrastamista ja sen yhteyksi\u00e4 fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen. Mit\u00e4 urheilulajeja nuoret harrastavat ja montako eri liikuntaharrastusta heill\u00e4 on? Onko harrastusten lukum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4 tai urheiluseurassa harrastamisella yhteytt\u00e4 fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen? \r\n\r\nTutkielma on osa Liikkuva koulu -ohjelmaan liittyv\u00e4\u00e4 tutkimusta. Aineisto on ker\u00e4tty hankkeeseen osallistuneiden yl\u00e4koulujen (n=23) oppilailta kyselylomakkeella hankkeen kolmannella (syksy 2011) ja nelj\u00e4nnell\u00e4 (kev\u00e4t 2012) mittauskerralla. Tutkimuksen aineistossa oli mukana yhteens\u00e4 1182 kahdeksas- ja yhdeks\u00e4sluokkalaisen oppilaan vastaukset. N\u00e4ist\u00e4 oppilaista oli poikia 551 ja tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 631. Analyysiss\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin riippumattomien otosten t-testi\u00e4, korrelaatiomatriisia, yksi- ja kaksisuuntaista varianssianalyysia ja khiin neli\u00f6 -testi\u00e4.\r\n\r\nTutkimuksesta saadut tulokset viittaavat siihen, ett\u00e4 liikunnanharrastustottumuksissa on eroja poikien ja tytt\u00f6jen v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Pojat harrastivat keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin useampaa liikuntalajia kuin tyt\u00f6t. P\u00e4ivitt\u00e4iseen fyysisen aktiivisuuden suositukseen (v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n 60 minuuttia liikuntaa) ylsi 17 % pojista ja ainoastaan 9 % tyt\u00f6ist\u00e4. Fyysisen kokonaisaktiivisuuden keskiarvoissa ei ollut eroja sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4, sek\u00e4 pojat ett\u00e4 tyt\u00f6t liikkuivat keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin noin nelj\u00e4n\u00e4 p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 viikossa v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n 60 minuuttia. Sek\u00e4 pojissa ett\u00e4 tyt\u00f6iss\u00e4 useampaa lajia harrastavat ylsiv\u00e4t muita paremmin aktiivisuussuositukseen. Aktiivisella urheiluseuraharrastamisella oli positiivinen yhteys sek\u00e4 poikien ett\u00e4 tytt\u00f6jen fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen. \r\n\r\nTutkielma vahvisti aiempaa k\u00e4sityst\u00e4 siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 urheiluseurassa harrastaminen ja useamman lajin harrastaminen lis\u00e4\u00e4 nuorten fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta ja v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 erityisesti passiivista liikuntak\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymist\u00e4. Koska nuorten liikuntak\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisen vaarana on polarisoituminen, tulisi v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n liikkuvien aktiivisuutta pyrki\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tarjoamalla enemm\u00e4n monipuolisia ja ilmaisia liikuntamahdollisuuksia. Kuntosalin ja ryhm\u00e4liikunnan pariin hakeutuu yh\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n nuoria. Toistaiseksi n\u00e4m\u00e4 palvelut ovat l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 yksityisen sektorin tarjoamia ja verrattain kalliita. Vastaavanlaisia palveluja voisi tarjota ilmaiseksi esimerkiksi parantamalla koulujen sis\u00e4liikuntapaikkoja. Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, Master\u2019s thesis in sport pedagogy, 58p.\r\nSports activities among Finnish youths have increased during the past decades (Kansallinen liikuntatutkimus 2010). This has not, however, increased the overall level of physical activity (WHO Europa 2008; WHO 2010). It is important to study young people\u2019s sports hobbies and physical activity levels so that one may support the physical exercise of the youth in the appropriate target groups. The aim of this study was to examine eighth and ninth graders\u2019 sports hobbies and their influence on physical activity levels. What sports do young people do and how many different sports activities do they have? Is there a connection between the level of physical activity and the amount of sports activities or physical activity levels and doing sports in a club?\r\nThe present thesis is part of the study relating to the Liikkuva koulu project. The data has been collected in the form of a questionnaire from students of schools (n=23) participating in the project. The questionnaire was conducted in the third (autumn 2011) and fourth (spring 2012) time of measurement of the project. The data consists of 1182 pupils\u2019 answers. The pupils consisted of 551 boys and 631 girls. The data was analysed using independent samples t-test, cross-tabulation, one-way and two-way analysis of variance, and Chi-square distribution. \r\nThe results of the present study suggest that habits relating to sports activities are different between boys and girls. On average, boys had more different kinds of sports activities than girls. Moreover, 17% of the boys and only 9% of the girls reached the recommended level for daily physical activity (60minutes). Nevertheless, there were no gender differences in the overall physical activity levels. Both boys and girls exercised on average four days a week for at least 60 minutes. Amongst both boys and girls, those who did several types of sport reached the recommended level for daily physical activity better than the rest. Active participation in sports club activities had a positive impact on the level of physical activity of both boys and girls. \r\nThe present study confirms previous findings according to which doing sports in a club as well as doing several different kinds of sport increase young people\u2019s physical activity and reduce, in particular, sedentary behaviour. Young people\u2019s physical activity levels are at risk of polarising and, thus, the activity levels of those who exercise less should be increased by offering more diverse and free exercise opportunities. More and more young people go to the gym and take fitness classes. For the present, services such as these are mostly offered by the private sector and are relatively expensive. Corresponding services could be offered free of charge by improving schools\u2019 indoor exercise facilities, for example.
