Yksi keskeisist\u00e4 tavoitteistani oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, kuinka oppilaat kokevat vieraalla kielell\u00e4 toimimisen autenttisissa tilanteissa, ja millaisia vaikutuksia ulkomailla oleskelulla on oppilasvaihtoon osallistuvan nuoren n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Lis\u00e4ksi k\u00e4sittelen tutkielmassani sit\u00e4, kuinka koulun vieraan kielen tunnit ovat lukiolaisten mielest\u00e4 valmistaneet saksan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4miseen luokkahuoneen ulkopuolella. Kansainv\u00e4lisyys sek\u00e4 monipuolinen kielitaito ovat keskeisess\u00e4 osassa muun muassa vuonna 2016 voimaan astuvien opetussuunnitelman perusteiden luonnoksessa. Vaikka aihe on ajankohtainen, on koululaisten liikkuvuutta sek\u00e4 vaihtokokemuksia tutkittu t\u00e4h\u00e4n menness\u00e4 melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n. \r\n\r\nTutkielman aineisto koostuu kuudesta teemahaastattelusta, jotka ker\u00e4ttiin vuoden 2014 aikana. Haastatteluihin osallistui kuusi abiturienttia eri puolilta Suomea, ja he olivat viett\u00e4neet kuukaudesta kymmeneen kuukauteen oppilasvaihdossa Saksassa. Koska osallistujien taustat olivat muuten hyvin samankaltaiset, muodosti vaihdon pituus mielenkiintoisen vertailukohdan lukiolaisten v\u00e4lille. Aineisto analysoitiin laadullista sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en, sill\u00e4 se soveltuu hyvin kokemusten tutkimiseen, jotka ovat keski\u00f6ss\u00e4 t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa. \r\n\r\nOppilaiden vaihtokokemukset olivat p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa my\u00f6nteisi\u00e4, ja he kokivat tavoitteidensa t\u00e4yttyneen. Saksan kielen oppiminen sek\u00e4 kulttuuriin ja saksalaisiin tutustuminen olivat useimmin mainitut syyt vaihtoon osallistumiselle. Lukiolaiset kokivat saaneensa hyv\u00e4t perustaidot koulun tunneilta, ja opettaja toimi usein kannustajana vaihtoprosessin suunnittelussa. Silti l\u00e4hes kaikki kaipasivat lis\u00e4\u00e4 vapaata keskustelua sek\u00e4 arkisanaston opettelua koulun tunneille, koska t\u00e4m\u00e4 valmistaisi oppilaiden mukaan hyvin aitoihin kielenk\u00e4ytt\u00f6tilanteisiin. Vaihdon pituudella osoittautui olevan yll\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4n v\u00e4h\u00e4n merkityst\u00e4 yksitt\u00e4isen oppilaan kokemuksen kannalta. Vieraan kielen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4misen koettiin helpottuvan jo muutamissa p\u00e4iviss\u00e4 tai viikoissa, ja my\u00f6s kuukauden kes\u00e4vaihtoon osallistuneet oppilaat huomasivat merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 muutoksia kielitaidossaan. Varmuus k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 saksaa sek\u00e4 osittain my\u00f6s muita vieraita kieli\u00e4 kasvoi jo lyhyen vaihdon aikana. Yht\u00e4lailla lukiolaiset onnistuivat jo lyhyess\u00e4 ajassa luomaan pysyvi\u00e4 kontakteja saksalaisiin. Tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 koululaisten kansainv\u00e4liseen toimintaan satsaaminen on kannattavaa.
