Tutkimuksessa halusin selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, mill\u00e4 tasolla n\u00e4k\u00f6vammaisten apuv\u00e4lineiden k\u00e4ytett\u00e4vyys on t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 ja mit\u00e4 parannettavaa siin\u00e4 olisi tulevaisuudessa. Tarkoitus oli my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, mit\u00e4 apuv\u00e4lineit\u00e4 n\u00e4k\u00f6vammaiset oikeasti k\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t. Erityishuomiota tutkimuksessa saivat liikkumisen apuv\u00e4lineet. \n\nSelvitt\u00e4\u00e4kseni n\u00e4it\u00e4 asioita suoritin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4kyselyn varsinaiselle k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4ryh-m\u00e4lle. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tehtiin n\u00e4k\u00f6vammaisten keskustelufoorumin kautta s\u00e4hk\u00f6isesti. Kyselyyn osallistui yhteens\u00e4 32 vastaajaa, joista oli enemmist\u00f6 sokeita. Kyselyss\u00e4 selvisi, ett\u00e4 n\u00e4k\u00f6vammaiset suhtautuvat apuv\u00e4lineiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n p\u00e4\u00e4s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6isesti positiivisesti, mutta niist\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyy lukuisasti ep\u00e4kohtia. N\u00e4ist\u00e4 yleisimm\u00e4t liittyiv\u00e4t apuv\u00e4lineiden korkeaan hintaan, ep\u00e4luotettavuuteen sek\u00e4 huonosta k\u00e4ytett\u00e4vyyssuunnittelusta johtuviin ongelmiin. Vastaajat halusivat selv\u00e4sti apuv\u00e4lineilt\u00e4\u00e4n hyv\u00e4\u00e4 k\u00e4ytett\u00e4vyytt\u00e4, edullisuutta ja monipuolisia ominaisuuksia. Yleisimm\u00e4t apuv\u00e4lineet vastaajilla liittyiv\u00e4t liikkumiseen, tiedonhankintaan ja viestint\u00e4\u00e4n. Kaikki ovat \u00e4\u00e4rimm\u00e4isen t\u00e4rkeit\u00e4 itsen\u00e4isen el\u00e4m\u00e4n kannalta. Opaskoira oli selv\u00e4sti t\u00e4rkein apuv\u00e4line omistajilleen, joten niiden hankintaa ja koulutusta tulisi tukea edelleen ja lis\u00e4t\u00e4 sek\u00e4 helpottaa mahdollisuutta hankkia sellainen. \n\nTutkimuksen perusteella on selv\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 jatkossa tulisi apuv\u00e4lineiden kehityk-sess\u00e4 olla mukana alusta asti kattavaa k\u00e4ytett\u00e4vyystutkimusta. Lis\u00e4ksi ehk\u00e4 viel\u00e4 t\u00e4rke\u00e4mp\u00e4\u00e4 olisi huomioida erityisryhm\u00e4t, kuten n\u00e4k\u00f6vammaiset, kaikes-sa tuotekehityksess\u00e4, jotta he voisivat k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kaikkea tekniikkaa. They offer the possibility for living an independent life, having hobbies and working to people who would not have that chance without them. In this study I wanted to find out the current level of usability of these aids for the visually impaired and what kind of improvements could be done in the future. One aim was also to find out which assistive devices the visually impaired in fact used. Special attention was also given to movement aids.\n\nIn order to examine these issues I conducted a user survey for the actual user group. This was done electronically on an internet discussion forum for the visually impaired. 32 respondents answered the survey of whom the majority were blind. The results showed that the visually impaired mostly view using aids as a positive thing but that they also have several grievances. The most common complications were connected to the high prices and the unreliability of aids, as well as to problems deriving from poor usability design. The respondents clearly desired good usability, inexpensiveness and diverse features from their assistive devices. Most common aids the respondents used were connected to movement, information and communication. All of these are really important for having an independent life. A guide dog was by far the most significant aid for those respondents who own one, so it is important to support obtaining and training guide dogs, and to increase and improve the possibility to acquire one. \n\nBased on the findings of the study, it is clear that in the future comprehensive usability research should be integrated in aid design process straight from the beginning. Additionally, it is perhaps even more important to take special groups, such as the visually impaired, into consideration in all kinds of product development, so that they could use all technology. That way they would not need to use only assistive devices, which tend to be overpriced. Pursuit for accessibility in movement, information and attitude would benefit all users, not only special groups, without causing any harm to anyone.
