Motivaationa mittauksille toimi suihkujen käyttö hadroniterapiassa, sillä varattujen raskaiden hiukkasten energiajätön käyttäytyminen materiassa toimii syvällä kudoksissa olevien kasvainten hoitoon erityisen hyvin. Lopulliset tulokset olivat noin 8-21 prosenttia pienempiä kuin ICRU:n raportin 73 data. Lisäksi yhdessä kohtiossa tapahtunut energiajättö poikkesi huomattavasti muista. Syytä tähän ei löydetty, mutta virhelähteeksi epäiltiin kohtioiden paksuuden mittausta. This thesis describes the main features of heavy charged particles' interaction with matter and some methods of measuring the stopping power of radiation. The stopping power of C-12-ions in water targets was also determined from experimental data collected with MCP-based time-of-flight detectors. The water target thicknesses used were 0.39 mm, 0.57 mm and 0.93 mm. The motivation for these measurements was the use of C-12-beams in hadron therapy. The behavior of heavy charged particles suits the treatment of tumors found deep inside the body. The final results for stopping power were 8-21 percent smaller compared to the ICRU Report 73 data. One of the targets also gave results that didn't agree with the results of the rest of the targets. The cause for this remained unknown, but it was suspected to be an error in the target thickness measurements.
