Ammattikorkeakoulututkintojen yhteisiin kompetensseihin lukeutuvan kansainv\u00e4listymisosaamisen kehittymist\u00e4 tukevien opintojen ja pedagogisten ratkaisujen toteutumista fysioterapian (AMK) opinnoissa ei kuitenkaan ole tutkittu. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on kartoittaa kansainv\u00e4listymisosaamista kehitt\u00e4vien opintojen toteutumista fysioterapeutin ammattikorkeakouluopinnoissa. \r\n\r\nTutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytetty aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kahdessa osassa lukuvuoden 2013\u20132014 aikana. Ensin ker\u00e4ttiin Suomen fysioterapian (AMK) koulutusohjelmien julkiset opetussuunnitelmadokumentit koulutusohjelmien verkkosivuilta. Dokumentit analysoitiin laadullisen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin keinoin. T\u00e4m\u00e4n j\u00e4lkeen fysioterapian koulutusohjelmien opettajille ja koulutusp\u00e4\u00e4llik\u00f6ille l\u00e4hetettiin s\u00e4hk\u00f6inen kysely, joka sis\u00e4lsi sek\u00e4 strukturoituja ett\u00e4 avoimia kysymyksi\u00e4. Kyselyvastaukset analysoitiin p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa laadullisesti. Kyselyyn vastasi 23 fysioterapian koulutusohjelman opettajaa tai koulutusp\u00e4\u00e4llikk\u00f6\u00e4 kymmenest\u00e4 eri ammattikorkeakoulusta.\r\n\r\nTutkimustulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 fysioterapian (AMK) opetussuunnitelmissa on erotettavissa kolme kansainv\u00e4listymisen p\u00e4\u00e4luokkaa: kotikansainv\u00e4listyminen, kansainv\u00e4listyminen ulkomailla ja muu kansainv\u00e4listyminen kotimaassa tai ulkomailla. Yleisimmin kansainv\u00e4listyminen toteutuu ulkomaan vaihtona, ulkomaan harjoitteluna, kansainv\u00e4lisin\u00e4 intensiivijaksoina, hankkeina tai projektiopintoina, tai tutortoimintana. Kansainv\u00e4listymiseen liittyvi\u00e4 monikulttuurisuusopintoja ei juurikaan tuoda esiin opetussuunnitelmissa. \r\n\r\nKyselyyn vastanneista opettajista jokainen piti kielitaitoa t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 fysioterapian koulutuksessa. Jokainen vastaaja piti my\u00f6s kansainv\u00e4listymisosaamista v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n melko t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 fysioterapian koulutuksessa. Opettajien vastauksista nousi esiin se, ett\u00e4 he n\u00e4kev\u00e4t oman roolinsa t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 opiskelijan kansainv\u00e4listymisess\u00e4. Valtaosa kyselyyn vastanneista opettajista kaipasi kieliopintoja ja opintoja vieraskielisten opintojaksojen suunnittelun tueksi. Kysytt\u00e4ess\u00e4 kansainv\u00e4listymisopintojen tavoitteista nousi vastauksista esiin viisi p\u00e4\u00e4teemaa: 1) Kansainv\u00e4lisyys kulttuurisen osaamisen lis\u00e4\u00e4j\u00e4n\u00e4, 2) Kansainv\u00e4lisyys ammatillisen kehityksen mahdollistajana, 3) Kansainv\u00e4lisyys yhteisty\u00f6n mahdollistajana, 4) Kansainv\u00e4lisyys tuloksellisuuden mittarina ja 5) Kansainv\u00e4lisyys opetustarjonnan rikastuttajana.\r\n \r\nKansainv\u00e4listymisosaamiseen liittyv\u00e4t kansalliset ja kansainv\u00e4liset vaatimukset ovat vahvasti esill\u00e4 fysioterapian koulutusohjelmien opetussuunnitelmissa sek\u00e4 ammattikorkeakoulujen strategioissa. Kansainv\u00e4listymisopinnot n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t sen sijaan toteutuvan k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 vaihtelevasti. Internationalization competence is regarded as one of the generic competences in the Universities of Applied sciences in Finland. Regardless of its topicality, it is not well researched in Finland. The purpose of this study is to identify how internationalization and multicultural studies are implemented in the Bachelor\u2019s degree programmes in physiotherapy. \r\n\r\nThe data was collected during the academic year 2013-2014. The curriculums of physiotherapy degree programmes were collected from the internet and analysed qualitatively with content analysis. After the analysis of the curriculums an electronic questionnaire was submitted for all the teachers and the heads of the degree programmes. The answers were analysed both qualitatively and quantitatively. Altogether 23 teachers or heads of degree programmes from nine different Universities of applied sciences answered the questionnaire.\r\n\r\nThe results showed that three main categories of internationalization rose in the curriculums: 1) Domestic internationalization, 2) Internationalization aboard and 3) Other forms of internalization. Most commonly internationalization studies implemented as exchange studies, international projects, seminars and intensive courses, and international tutoring. Multicultural competence studies were rarely offered. \r\n\r\nAll of the teachers and the heads of the degree programmes answering the questionnaire viewed that language skills and international skills are important part of physiotherapy studies. They also pointed out the importance of the teacher\u2019s role as a part of the student\u2019s internationalization. Majority of the teachers wished for more internalization education to become more competent in the subject in question. The teachers were particularly missing language studies and education in planning international courses. \r\n\r\nWhen teachers were asked about the aims of internationalization studies, five main categories were highlighted: 1) Internalization as enabler of cultural competence, 2) Internalization as enabler of professional expertise, 3) Internalization as enabler of international cooperation, 4) Internalization as an indicator of results and 5) Internalization as an enricher of the curriculum. \r\n\r\nBoth national and international regulations guiding the internationalization demands are strongly present in the curriculums discussed. On the other hand their implementation in the studies itself seem to vary largely. Internationalization remains a considerably optional part of the education. The intensity of the internationalization depends highly on student\u2019s / teacher\u2019s own interest. The meaning of international studies seems to remain unclear for many teachers. Some view them as a form of action that may cause internationalization.
