Tutkielmassa pyrittiin tutkimaan joukkorahoitusprojektien rahoittamiseen osallistuvien ihmisten motivaatiota, ja yritettiin hahmottaa palvelun k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4yhteis\u00f6n eli joukon roolia rahoittamiseen motivoitumisessa. Tutkielman empiirinen osa toteutettiin kvalitatiivisena tapaustutkimuksena, jonka aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin haastattelemalla suomalaisen joukkorahoituspalvelun Mesenaatti.me:n kautta joukkorahoitusprojekteja rahoittaneita yksil\u00f6it\u00e4 teemahaastattelujen muodossa. Teemahaastatteluissa k\u00e4ytetyt teema-alueet muodostettiin tutkielman ensimm\u00e4isess\u00e4 osassa tehdyn kirjallisuuskatsauksen pohjalta. Tutkimuksessa selvisi, ett\u00e4 ihmiset motivoituvat vastikeperusteisten joukkorahoitusprojektien rahoittamiseen sis\u00e4isen ja ulkoisen motivaation yhteisvaikutuksesta. T\u00e4rkeimm\u00e4t motivaation l\u00e4hteet l\u00f6ytyv\u00e4t nautintopohjaisen ja sosiaalisen motivaation osa-alueilta. T\u00e4rkeimmiksi yksitt\u00e4isiksi tekij\u00f6iksi rahoittajien kokemassa motivaatiossa nousi omien arvojen ja kiinnostuksen kohteiden yhtenev\u00e4isyys joukkorahoituksen suhteen. Lis\u00e4ksi rahoittajan on koettava rahoitettava projekti jollain tavalla merkitykselliseksi. Haastatteluissa nousi lis\u00e4ksi esille, ett\u00e4 joukkorahoitus koetaan vaihtoehdoksi perinteisille j\u00e4ykiksi koetuille apurahaj\u00e4rjestelmille taide- ja kulttuurialalla. Tarjotulla vastikkeella ei sen sijaan ole ratkaisevan suurta merkityst\u00e4 rahoitusp\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6st\u00e4 tehdess\u00e4. The aim was to study the motives for funding crowdfunding projects and to examine the role of the crowd for motivation. The empirical part of the thesis was conducted as a qualitative case study in a Finnish reward-based crowdfunding platform Mesenaatti.me by interviewing the funders. The interviews were designed to analyze specific themes composed from the results of the literary review. According to this thesis people are motivated to participate in funding reward-based crowdfunding projects because of the joint effect of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. The most important categories of motivation are enjoyment based motivation and social motivation. The importance of shared values and interests between the funder and the crowdfunding project is crucial for the motivation. Funders need to feel that the crowdfunding project they are about to fund is a significant initiative. Crowdsourcing is also seen as an option to traditional and inflexible sources of financial aid in culture and arts. Based on the material collected during the interviews it also became apparent that the reward has no decisive effect on motivating the funders in reward-based crowdfunding projects.
