Adaptiivisen musiikkitoiston avulla musiikista saadaan entistä kiinteämpi pelillinen elementti, ja siihen voidaan sisällyttää vihjeitä pelitilanteesta. Tutkielmassa tutustutaan taustamusiikin merkitykseen ja adaptiivisen musiikin mahdollisuuksiin. Tutkielmassa esitellään joitain yleisimpiä adaptiivisen musiikkitoiston menetelmiä, joista kahdesta laaditaan Unitypelimoottorissa toteutus. Niistä toista sovelletaan peliprojektiin. Music is an important element in video games. Music can seem unconnected if it is too repetitive or does not correlate with the gameplay situation. Repetitiveness and unconnectedness can be decreased by using adaptive game music. Adaptive music playback system adjusts the playback according to gameplay parameters. Music can be used as a more integral gameplay element with adaptive playback. Adaptive music can also contain clues about the game situation. In this thesis the importance of music and the advantages of adaptive playback are discussed. Some of the most common adaptive playback methods are presented. An adaptive playback implementation is developed in Unity game engine using two different approaches. One of them is applied in a game project.
