Lajintuntemustaitojen heikkenemisen vuoksi kasvien ker\u00e4\u00e4minen palautettiin opetussuunnitelmaan vuonna 2004. Nyky\u00e4\u00e4n kasveja ker\u00e4t\u00e4\u00e4n ohjatusti vuosiluokilla 5\u20139. Kasvion laajuus on koulujen p\u00e4\u00e4tett\u00e4viss\u00e4. Kasvilajintuntemuksen tason nostamiseksi tarvitaan tutkimustietoa eri opetusmenetelmist\u00e4 ja niiden tehokkuudesta. T\u00e4m\u00e4n kokeellisen tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 piirt\u00e4misen mahdollisuuksia kasvien lajintuntemuksen opetuksessa. Piirt\u00e4mist\u00e4 ei tavallisesti esitet\u00e4 opetustilanteissa ty\u00f6kaluna, jonka avulla voidaan esitt\u00e4\u00e4 ja j\u00e4rjestell\u00e4 ideoita, eik\u00e4 sen oppiainerajat ylitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 pedagogisia mahdollisuuksia ei ole juurikaan tutkittu. Kokeen p\u00e4\u00e4kysymys oli, auttaako kasvin piirt\u00e4minen l\u00f6yt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n paremmin oleelliset tuntomerkit ja helpottaako se siten kasvilajin oppimista. Tutkimuksen toisena tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 piirt\u00e4miseen liittyvi\u00e4 asenteita. Tutkimukseen osallistui kaksi luokkaa lukion ensimm\u00e4isen vuoden opiskelijoita. Kumpikin luokka jaettiin koe- ja kontrolliryhm\u00e4\u00e4n. Koeryhm\u00e4lle opetettiin kolme tapaa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 piirt\u00e4mist\u00e4 muistiinpanoja tehdess\u00e4, kontrolliryhm\u00e4 teki muistiinpanot kuten tavallisella oppitunnilla. Kokeellinen osuus toteutettiin 18.\u201327.11.2014 Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n normaalikoululla. Oppilaille opetettiin kymmenen kasvilajia, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen he osallistuivat kasvilajitestiin ja t\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t taustatietokyselyn. Koe- ja kontrolliryhmien oppimistuloksissa ei ollut eroa. Oppilaat tunnistivat kasvilajeja keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin heikosti, ja kasveihin liittyv\u00e4ss\u00e4 perussanastossa oli puutteita. Oppilaan itsearvio omasta lajintuntemusosaamisestaan korreloi positiivisesti lajintunnistustestin tuloksen kanssa. Oppilaat piirsiv\u00e4t selv\u00e4sti enemm\u00e4n, kun heit\u00e4 kannustettiin siihen, vaikka yli kolmasosa oppilaista oli sit\u00e4 mielt\u00e4, ettei piirt\u00e4miseen kannustaminen parantaisi heid\u00e4n oppimistuloksiaan. Oppilaista useampi piirsi koulussa (52 % vastanneista) kuin vapaa-ajallaan (34 %). Yleisimmin piirt\u00e4miseen oli kannustettu matemaattisissa aineissa. Decline in plant identification skills lead to the return of mandatory botanical collection to the national curriculum in 2004. Today plants are collected under supervision in classes 5\u20139. Size of the herbarium is decided by the individual schools. To improve the skills of plant identification, more experimental data is needed: Both on the various methods of teaching plants and their effectiveness. The purpose of this experimental study was to examine the possibilities that drawing may offer to the education on plant species. Drawing is not habitually demonstrated in classrooms as a tool for presenting and organizing ideas. Its interdisciplinary pedagogical possibilities have not been studied. The main question of this study was: Does drawing the plant help to find its distinctive characteristics and thereby make it easier to learn? Attitudes towards and about drawing were also studied. Two classes of pupils aged 15\u201316 took part to the study. Both classes were divided into two groups: the test group and the control. The test group was tought three ways to use drawing while taking notes. The control group took their notes as they normally would. The experiment was carried out 18.\u201327.11.2014 at the Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Teacher Training School. The pupils were taught ten plant species, after which they took part to a test of said plants and filled out a background info questionnaire. There was no difference in the learning outcome of the experiment group and the control. On average pupils could identify the plants poorly, and lack of plant related vocabulary was evident. Pupil\u2019s self-assessment of his or her skills on plant species identification correlated positively with the result of plant identification test. When encouraged, the pupils drew much more, even as more than a third of them felt that encouraging drawing would do nothing to their learning outcome. Pupils drew more in school (52 % of respondents) than on their free time (34 %). Most often drawing was encouraged in the mathematical subjects.
