Kasvavasta kiinnostuksesta huolimatta on opettajan k\u00e4yt\u00f6ksen ja opetusmenetelmien vaikutus oppilaiden kielenk\u00e4yt\u00f6n halukkuuteen toistaiseksi melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkittu tekij\u00e4. T\u00e4st\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkielma selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 suomalaisten kielenoppijoiden k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 siit\u00e4, kuinka opettajien k\u00e4yt\u00f6s ja opetusmenetelm\u00e4t vaikuttavat heid\u00e4n valmiuteensa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 englantia opetustilanteessa. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimuksessa raportoidaan oppilaiden ajatuksia siit\u00e4, mill\u00e4 tavoin opettaja pystyy k\u00e4yt\u00f6ksell\u00e4\u00e4n nostamaan oppilaiden halukkuutta k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 englantia, sek\u00e4 millaiset teht\u00e4v\u00e4t kannustavat kielenk\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n eniten. Lopuksi tutkimuksessa esitell\u00e4\u00e4n muita kielenk\u00e4yt\u00f6nhalukkuuteen vaikuttavia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 joita vastaajat pitiv\u00e4t merkitt\u00e4vin\u00e4.\r\nTutkimusaineisto ker\u00e4ttiin 16- ja 17-vuotiailta suomalaisilta lukiolaisilta kyselyn muodossa. Vastaajia oli 22, joista 14 oli tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 ja 8 poikia. Keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin vastaajilla oli kouluvuosiensa aikana ollut viisi englannin opettajaa ja halukkuus k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 englantia oli vaihdellut eri opettajien v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Opettajan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4t opetusmenetelm\u00e4t oli t\u00e4h\u00e4n merkitt\u00e4vin vaikuttava tekij\u00e4, mutta my\u00f6s opettajan k\u00e4yt\u00f6s n\u00e4htiin merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 osasyyn\u00e4. Suurin positiivinen vaikutus oppilaiden kielenk\u00e4yt\u00f6n halukkuuteen oli kun opettaja oli kannustava sek\u00e4 innostunut ja k\u00e4ytti monipuolisia, kohderyhm\u00e4lle sopivia opetusmenetelmi\u00e4. Haittavaikutus oli merkitt\u00e4vin silloin, kun opettajan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4t opetusmenetelm\u00e4t olivat jatkuvasti samanlaisia tai kun opettaja itse ei osoittanut kiinnostusta oppilaita tai oppiainetta kohtaan. Sek\u00e4 suullisesti ett\u00e4 kirjallisesti toteutettavat ryhm\u00e4- ja parity\u00f6t koettiin kielenk\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n kannustavimpina teht\u00e4v\u00e4tyyppein\u00e4. Opettajan k\u00e4yt\u00f6ksen ja opetusmenetelmien lis\u00e4ksi iso osa vastaajista oli sit\u00e4 mielt\u00e4, ett\u00e4 ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n liittyv\u00e4t tekij\u00e4t vaikuttavat heid\u00e4n valmiuteensa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kielt\u00e4 oppitunneilla. N\u00e4it\u00e4 ovat esimerkiksi luokkahenki ja se, kuinka hyvin he tuntevat ryhm\u00e4n.
