Tutkimuksen aiheena olleet lukutuokiot ovat kehitelty heikkojen lukijoiden lukemissujuvuuden tukemiseksi. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 kuinka lapset kuvailevat osallistumiskokemuksiaan koskien Lukumummi ja -vaari \u2013toiminnan lukutuokioita. Vastauksia etsittiin siihen millaisia mielipiteit\u00e4 lapsilla oli lukutuokioista, miten he kehitt\u00e4isiv\u00e4t lukutuokioita jatkossa sek\u00e4 mink\u00e4laisia vaikutuksia lapset kokivat lukutuokioilla olleen heid\u00e4n lukutaidolleen sek\u00e4 lukumotivaatiolleen. Yhdysvalloissa toteutetuissa aikaisemmissa tutkimuksissa on tullut esille, ett\u00e4 partnerilukeminen, jossa aikuinen ja lapsi lukevat yhdess\u00e4, voi edist\u00e4\u00e4 lasten lukutaitoa. Tutkimuksen aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin haastattelemalla lapsia, jotka osallistuivat Niilo M\u00e4ki Instituutin Lukemissujuvuuden kehityksen tukeminen koului\u00e4ss\u00e4 -hankkeen Lukumummi ja -vaari \u2013toimintaan vuonna 2013. Jokaisesta Lukumummi ja -vaari \u2013toimintaan osallistuneesta koululuokasta valittiin lukutuokioihin kaksi lukemissujuvuudeltaan heikointa lukijaa. Hankkeessa vapaaehtoiset mummit ja vaarit pitiv\u00e4t kahdenkeskisi\u00e4 lukutuokioita lapsille. Heid\u00e4n teht\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4\u00e4n oli innostaa lapsia lukemiseen. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin 34 lapsen vastauksia. Lapset olivat eri luokka-asteilta, 2.-luokkalaisista 6.-luokkalaisiin. Heist\u00e4 17 oli tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 ja 17 poikia. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 laadullisessa tutkimuksessa aineisto analysoitiin aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isell\u00e4 sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysill\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus on viitekehykselt\u00e4\u00e4n lapsuustutkimus, lapsia on kuultu ja heid\u00e4n mielipiteens\u00e4 otettu huomioon tutkimuksen teon aikana. Lapset kuvailivat lukutuokioita p\u00e4\u00e4osin onnistuneiksi. Lukeminen yhdess\u00e4 Lukumummin tai -vaarin kanssa koettiin my\u00f6nteisen\u00e4. Lukutuokioissa pidettiin eniten lukemisesta ja lukutuokioille valitut kirjat olivat lasten mielest\u00e4 mielenkiintoisia. Valtaosa lapsista piti lukupaikasta, ja lukutavoista mukavin oli vuorolukeminen. Lukutuokioiden ajallinen kesto koettiin sopivaksi. Kehitysehdotuksia tuli muutamien lasten vastauksissa koskien lukutapoja, lukupaikkaa, kirjoja sek\u00e4 lukutuokioiden ajankohtaa. Lasten vastauksissa tuli esille kasvanut innostus lukemista kohtaan, ja lis\u00e4ksi he arvioivat lukutaitonsa kehittyneen lukutuokioiden my\u00f6t\u00e4.
