Liikuntakasvatuksen laitos, Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopisto, liikuntapedagogiikan pro gradu -tutkielma, 79 s, 3 liitett\u00e4.\r\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 kahdeksasluokkalaisten poikien kokemuksia kilpailemisesta osana koululiikuntaa. Oppilaat jaettiin vastausten perusteella kahteen ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n: kilpailulliset ja ei-kilpailulliset. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin oppilaan kilpailullisuuden yhteytt\u00e4 oppilaan liikunnallisuuteen, eri motivaatiotekij\u00f6ihin ja tavoiteorientaatioon. Tutkimuksemme eri motivaatiotekij\u00e4t pohjautuvat Koululiikunnan motivaatioilmasto -mittariin (Soini 2006), ja niill\u00e4 tarkoitetaan viihtymist\u00e4, sosiaalista yhteenkuuluvuutta, autonomiaa sek\u00e4 teht\u00e4v\u00e4- ja min\u00e4suuntautunutta ilmastoa.\r\nTutkimus toteutettiin kyselytutkimuksena kahdessa eri kaupungissa. Tutkimukseen vastasi yhteens\u00e4 126 oppilasta kuudesta eri koulusta. Kummassakin kaupungissa tutkimus toteutettiin kolmessa eri koulussa. Aineiston ker\u00e4\u00e4misell\u00e4 eri kouluista pyrittiin yksitt\u00e4isen oppilasryhm\u00e4n vaikutuksen pienent\u00e4miseen ja sit\u00e4 kautta tulosten luotettavuuden lis\u00e4\u00e4miseen. Aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin helmikuussa 2014 ja se analysoitiin kev\u00e4\u00e4n 2014 aikana. Analysointi suoritettiin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 IBM SPSS 20.0 Statistics -ohjelmaa. \r\nTuloksista selvisi, ett\u00e4 suurin osa, noin 90 %, oppilaista suhtautui my\u00f6nteisesti kilpailuun liikuntatunneilla. Toisaalta l\u00e4hes kolmannes ei en\u00e4\u00e4 lis\u00e4isi kilpailua liikuntatunneille. Havaittavissa oli selv\u00e4 yhteys liikunnallisuuden ja kilpailullisuuden v\u00e4lill\u00e4: liikunnallisimmat oppilaat olivat my\u00f6s kilpailullisempia. Liikunnallisimpien ja v\u00e4hiten liikkuvien n\u00e4kemyksiss\u00e4 kilpailullisuudesta oli merkitsev\u00e4 ero (p<0.001). Motivaatiotekij\u00f6iden osalta oppilaat raportoivat viihtyv\u00e4ns\u00e4 hyvin koululiikunnassa. T\u00e4m\u00e4 oli yhteist\u00e4 vastaajille kilpailullisuusryhm\u00e4st\u00e4 huolimatta. Kilpailulliset oppilaat raportoivat korkeampia motivaatiotekij\u00f6iden arvoja kuin ei-kilpailulliset oppilaat. Heikoimmin kilpailullisuuden kanssa korreloi autonomian tunne. N\u00e4iden v\u00e4linen korrelaatiokerroin oli vain 0.08. Molemmissa kilpailullisuusryhmiss\u00e4 havaittiin tavoiteorientaatioltaan enemm\u00e4n teht\u00e4v\u00e4- kuin min\u00e4suuntautuneita oppilaita. Toisaalta kilpailullisten joukosta l\u00f6ytyi ei-kilpailullisia enemm\u00e4n sek\u00e4 teht\u00e4v\u00e4- ett\u00e4 min\u00e4suuntautuneita.\r\nOppilaat suhtautuivat kilpailuun osana liikuntatunteja p\u00e4\u00e4osin my\u00f6nteisesti. Liiallinen kilpailun korostaminen voi kuitenkin olla haitallista. T\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 onkin muistaa tarjota jokaiselle sopivia tapoja kilpailla. Kilpailullisilla oppilailla oli my\u00f6nteisempi kuva liikuntatuntien motivaatiotekij\u00f6ist\u00e4 ja kilpailusta osana koululiikuntaa kuin ei-kilpailullisilla oppilailla. Department of Physical Education, University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, Master\u2019s thesis, 79 pp, 3 appendicies.\r\nThe aim of this study was to examine 8th grade pupils\u2019 perceptions of competition in the school physical education classes. The pupils were divided into two groups based on their answers: the competitives and non-competitives. In addition, the connection between pupil\u2019s perception of competition and his sportiveness, aspects of motivation and goal orientation was examined. Different aspects of motivation are based on Motivational Climate in School Physical Education Scale (MCSPES) (Soini 2006). They include enjoyment, social relatedness, perceived autonomy and task- and ego involving climate.\r\nThe study was realized by using questionnaires that were delivered to in total 126 pupils from two different cities, from six different schools. Three schools from each city took part into the study. By collecting data from different cities the researches wanted to minimize the effect of a single school and physical education class. This also betters the reliability of the results. The data was gathered in February 2014 and the analyzing process was carried out in spring 2014. Analyzing process was carried out by using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 -programme. \r\nThe results showed that the majority, about 90 %, of the students have a positive perception of competition as a part of school physical education. On the other hand, almost one third of the pupils wouldn\u2019t add more competition in the physical education classes. There seems to be a clear connection between pupil\u2019s competitive spirit and sportiveness: the most sportive pupils had also more positive perceptions of competition. A significant difference (p<0.001) was found between the most and least sportive pupils in the competitiveness. Examining the aspects of motivation among the pupils, a high level of enjoyment was found. The competitive students reported having experienced more every aspect of motivation than non-competitives. Instead, the perception of autonomy was found to have the weakest correlation (0.08) to the competitiveness. More task- than ego-orientated pupils were found both from the competitive and non-competitive pupils. There was a clear difference of goal orientation between the competition groups.\r\nAccording to the results, competition seems to be a well-liked part of physical education classes. However, excessive competition may be harmful. Thus, different types of competition should be offered. Competitive pupils have a more positive perception of physical education, its different aspects and competition than non-competitives. A positive observation was that of all pupils the majority informed feeling enjoyment in the physical education classes.
