Verkko-opiskelussa korostuvat joustavuus ja itseohjautuvuus. Konstruktivistinen oppiminen on noussut keskeiseksi oppimisteoriapohjaksi my\u00f6s verkko-opinnoissa. Yksi tyypillinen yhteis\u00f6llisen verkkoty\u00f6skentelyn muoto onkin verkkokeskustelu, jossa n\u00e4m\u00e4 n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmat yhdistyv\u00e4t. Verkko-ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 opiskeleminen ei kuitenkaan aina tarjoa opiskelijalle riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti yhteis\u00f6llisyyden kokemuksia. Verkkokeskustelujen haasteet liittyv\u00e4t usein keskusteluiden kankeuteen ja pinnallisuuteen tai opiskelijoiden ep\u00e4tasaiseen osallistumiseen. Tutkimusta verkko-opintojen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4misest\u00e4 biologian opettajankoulutuksessa on v\u00e4h\u00e4n, ja siksi teemaan haluttiin keskitty\u00e4. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, millaiset asenteet biologian opettajaopiskelijoilla on verkko-opiskelua kohtaan ja miten verkkokeskustelu soveltuu opiskelumenetelm\u00e4ksi biologiaan liittyv\u00e4n eettisen teeman pohdinnassa. Eettiseksi teemaksi valikoitui evoluution opettaminen suomalaisessa koulussa, sill\u00e4 teema on jatkuvasti ajankohtainen. Tutkimukseen osallistui Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopistosta 16 opiskelijaa, joilla p\u00e4\u00e4- tai sivuaineena oli biologia. Suurin osa heist\u00e4 (15) opiskeli aineenopettajiksi. Tutkimusmenetelmin\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin lomakekysely\u00e4 ja yksil\u00f6haastatteluja. Lomakekysely toteutettiin tutkimuksen alussa ja lopussa, haastattelut vain tutkimuksen lopussa. Mittausten v\u00e4liss\u00e4 osallistujat keskustelivat biologian opetukseen liittyv\u00e4st\u00e4 teemasta joko kasvotusten tai anonyymisti verkkoymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4. Aineistona k\u00e4ytettiin siis lomakemittauksista saatuja tietoja, haastatteluita, verkkokeskustelua sek\u00e4 kasvokkain tapahtuneen keskustelun nauhoitusta. Opiskelijoiden asenteet verkko-opiskeluun olivat p\u00e4\u00e4s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6isesti hyv\u00e4t. Verkko-opiskelusta kuvattiin useita hyvi\u00e4 puolia, t\u00e4rkeimp\u00e4n\u00e4 sen joustavuus. Verkko-opiskelu oli tutkimuksen mukaan tavoiteltava opiskelumuoto yliopisto-opiskelussa, ja se soveltuu hyvin erilaisiin el\u00e4m\u00e4ntilanteisiin. Verkkokeskustelussa erityisen t\u00e4rke\u00e4ksi koettiin osallistujien anonymiteetti. Tutkimuksen mukaan anonyymi verkkokeskustelu soveltuukin k\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4ksi biologian alan eettisten teemojen k\u00e4sittelemiseen. Muut verkko-oppimisesta saadut tulokset vahvistavat jo ennalta kirjallisuudessa esiintyvi\u00e4 tuloksia. Flexibility and self-management to one\u2019s studies are advantages of e-learning. Constructionism as a learning theory has been found a good theory also in e-learning. One typical collaborative e-learning method is online chat that combines all those good qualities. Studying in network environment doesn\u2019t always give enough feeling of collaboration. Challenges of online chats are linked with concepts like slowness and superficiality. Another challenge is varying activity of students taking part in online chat. There is only little research about e-learning among biology teacher students. The target of this research was to find out how the attitudes are towards e-learning and how online chat works as a learning method in learning ethical questions of biology teaching. The ethical theme was teaching of evolution in Finnish school. The theme has been in the media just recently. There were 16 participants in this research. They studied biology as their major or minor studies in the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. Most of them (15) studied to become a teacher of biology. In this master thesis were used two research methods, questionnaire and interview. Participants made questionnaire at the beginning and in the end of the research and interviews were hold only in the end. Between those measurements half of the group discussed about teaching of evolution face-to-face and half in the online chat (anonymously). The results of this thesis showed that the attitudes towards e-learning were good. There were many positive sides in e-learning and flexibility was the most important of them. So it seems that anonymous online chat is suitable to use in biology teacher education when dealing with ethical themes of teaching biology. Also face-to-face discussion was mentioned to be important.
