Lis\u00e4ksi koin, ett\u00e4 tutkielmani toisi lis\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa suomalaisten lukiolaisten strategioiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tottumuksista. Tutkielman toissijainen tarkoitus oli tuottaa lis\u00e4\u00e4 tutkimustietoa aikaisempien sanaston oppimisstrategiakyselyiden rinnalle, sill\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4nkaltaisia tutkimuksia on tehty melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n. Useimmissa aikaisemmissa kyselytutkimuksissa ei ole niin ik\u00e4\u00e4n tarkemmin tutkittu sukupuolen aikaansaamia vaikutuksia sanaston oppimisstrategioiden valintaan ja k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n.\r\n\r\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tarkoituksena oli kuvata ja kartoittaa suomalaisten lukiolaisten englannin kielen sanaston oppimisstrategioita. Yhdeks\u00e4nkymment\u00e4seitsem\u00e4n suomalaista englantia vieraana kielen\u00e4 opiskelevaa lukiolaista vastasi kyselyyn, jossa selvitettiin kuinka usein he k\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t ja kuinka hy\u00f6dyllisin\u00e4 he pitiv\u00e4t heille esitettyj\u00e4 kolmeakymment\u00e4 sanaston oppimisstrategiaa. Opiskelijoiden vastaukset analysoitiin kvantitatiivisesti.\r\n\r\nTutkimuskysymyksi\u00e4 oli nelj\u00e4: 1) mit\u00e4 sanaston oppimisstrategioita suomalaiset englantia vieraana kielen\u00e4 opiskelevat lukiolaiset k\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t, 2) mitk\u00e4 strategiat ovat heid\u00e4n mielest\u00e4\u00e4n hy\u00f6dyllisi\u00e4, 3) k\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4tk\u00f6 opiskelijat hy\u00f6dylliseksi ilmoittamiaan strategioita todellisuudessa ja 4) miten sukupuoli vaikuttaa sanaston oppimisstrategioiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n. \r\nKysymykset pyrkiv\u00e4t tarkastelemaan sanaston oppimisstrategioita oppimisen ty\u00f6kaluna monelta kantilta. Kaksi ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4kysymyst\u00e4 pyrkiv\u00e4t kartoittamaan ja kuvaamaan vallitsevaa tilannetta. Kaksi viimeist\u00e4 kysymyst\u00e4 pyrkiv\u00e4t syventym\u00e4\u00e4n siihen, miten opiskelijoiden omat asenteet, toimet ja taustatekij\u00e4t (sukupuoli) vaikuttavat strategioiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n.\r\n\r\nSuomalaisten lukio-opiskelijoiden vastaukset sanastonoppimisstrategiakyselyyn osoittivat, ett\u00e4 he pyrkiv\u00e4t yleisesti v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n syv\u00e4llisi\u00e4 oppimisstrategioita (assosiaatio, mielikuvat) ja suosimaan pinnallisia strategioita (sanalistat, toistaminen). Kuitenkaan opiskelijat eiv\u00e4t v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 n\u00e4hneet suosimiaan strategioita kaikkein hy\u00f6dyllisimpin\u00e4, vaan olisivat mielest\u00e4\u00e4n hy\u00f6tyneet enemm\u00e4n strategioista, joita he eiv\u00e4t usein k\u00e4ytt\u00e4neet (syv\u00e4lliset). Oppilaat tuntuivat my\u00f6s yleisesti arvostavan perinteisi\u00e4 strategioita innovatiivisempien sijaan; he pit\u00e4ytyiv\u00e4t mieluummin tutuissa vanhoissa kuin kokeilivat uusia. \r\n\r\nSukupuolten v\u00e4liset erot j\u00e4iv\u00e4t t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa pieniksi vaikka analyysiss\u00e4 havaittiin muutamia tilastollisesti merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 eroavaisuuksia mm. k\u00e4ytetyimmiss\u00e4 strategioissa, hy\u00f6dyllisimpin\u00e4 ja v\u00e4hiten hy\u00f6dyllisin\u00e4 pidetyiss\u00e4 strategioissa. Naisten havaittiin suhtautuvan hieman positiivisemmin ja avoimemmin sanaston oppimisstrategioiden\r\nk\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n ja niiden hy\u00f6dyllisyyteen.
