Maank\u00e4yt\u00f6n ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6vaikutusten arvioinnissa on k\u00e4ytetty apuna monia eli\u00f6ryhmi\u00e4, esimerkiksi pohjael\u00e4imi\u00e4, el\u00e4inplanktonia ja kaloja. Kuoriameebat (Testacea) ovat ryhm\u00e4 pieni\u00e4, lajistoltaan monimuotoisia ja laajalle levinneit\u00e4 yksisoluisia eli\u00f6it\u00e4. Ne ovat p\u00e4\u00e4asiallisesti akvaattisia eli\u00f6it\u00e4, ja niit\u00e4 esiintyy muun muassa turvemailla, kosteikoissa ja j\u00e4rviss\u00e4. Kuoriameebat sopivat erityisesti turvemaassa tapahtuvien muutosten seurantaan, sill\u00e4 ne reagoivat p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ns\u00e4 kosteuden sek\u00e4 pH:n muutoksiin. Kuoriameebojen kuoret s\u00e4ilyv\u00e4t yleens\u00e4 hyvin turpeessa ja sedimentiss\u00e4. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 tutkittiin luonnontilaisten, turvetuotannon valmisteluvaiheessa olevien ja ennallistettujen soiden kuoriameebayhteis\u00f6j\u00e4 ja niist\u00e4 saatua aineistoa k\u00e4siteltiin monimuuttujamenetelmin. Ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 tutkittiin my\u00f6s k\u00e4ytetyn menetelm\u00e4n riitt\u00e4vyytt\u00e4 lajiston selvitt\u00e4miseksi. Tutkimuksen keskeisen\u00e4 tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, eroavatko luonnontilaisten soiden kuoriameebayhteis\u00f6t turvetuotannon valmisteluvaiheessa olevien ja ennallistettujen soiden yhteis\u00f6ist\u00e4. Tulosten mukaan kuoriameebayhteis\u00f6t eroavat toisistaan. Valmisteluvaiheen soilla havaittiin enemm\u00e4n kuivan ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n kuoriameebalajeja verrattuna muihin suoryhmiin. Kuoriameebatiheydet olivat my\u00f6s suurimmillaan valmisteluvaiheen soilla. Luonnontilaisilla soilla oli odotetusti enemm\u00e4n m\u00e4r\u00e4n ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n lajeja. Ennallistetuilta soilta l\u00f6ytyi lajeja, jotka siet\u00e4v\u00e4t hyvin kosteuden vaihteluita. Ilmeisesti keskeisin kuoriameebayhteis\u00f6j\u00e4 muokkaava ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6tekij\u00e4 on pintaturpeen vesipitoisuus (pohjavedenpinnan taso), jota t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa ei mitattu kvantitatiivisesti, vaan arvioitiin silm\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4isesti. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin, ett\u00e4 200 yksil\u00f6n tunnistus n\u00e4ytealaa kohti riitt\u00e4\u00e4 kattavan lajiston saavuttamiseksi. Yhdistetyill\u00e4 kolmella n\u00e4ytteell\u00e4 suota kohti saavutetaan 77 \u2013 86 % kokonaislajim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4estimaatista. Yhteenvetona voidaan todeta, ett\u00e4 kuoriameebat sopivat turvemaiden maank\u00e4yt\u00f6n ekologisten vaikutusten arviointiin. In addition, the peatland use has strong impacts on peatlands. Many organisms such as benthic animals, zooplankton and fish have been used to help in the evaluation of ecological impacts of peatland use. Testate amoebae (Testacea) are a group of small, diverse and widespread unicellular organisms. They are mainly aquatic and they live e.g. in peatlands, wetlands and lakes. Testate amoebae are particularly well suited for monitoring changes in peatlands as they mainly react to moisture and pH changes in their environment. Shells of testate amoebae are usually well preserved in peat and sediment. In this study, the testate amoebae communities of natural, restored and preparation phase peatlands were examined and the collected data was analyzed with multivariate analysis. I also studied the adequacy of the used methodology to reliably determine the species composition. The main objective of this study assess whether there are differences between the testate amoebae communities from natural peatlands and those from restored and preparation phase peatlands. Results show that testate amoebae communities differ from each other. More taxa preferring dry habitats occurred in the preparation phase compared to other peatland groups. The highest total abundance of testate amoebae was also found in the preparation phase. As expected, taxa preferring wet conditions predominated in natural peatlands. Species that are highly resistant to changes in moisture were found in restored peatlands. Apparently the most important environmental factor affecting testate amoebae communities is the water content of surface peat layer (water table level), which in this study was not measured quantitatively, but was visually evaluated. I found that the 200 identified individuals per subsampling site is sufficient to obtain a representative species list and that the combined three samples from each site always entail 77 - 86 % of the total number of species. In summary, testate amoebae are suitable for the evaluation of ecological impacts of peatland use. They can be used to monitor the current state and possible changes of mires.
