Liikuntapedagogiikan pro gradu -tutkielma, 66 s., 1 liite.\n\nNuorten liikuntaharrastus on lis\u00e4\u00e4ntynyt, mutta samalla p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4inen fyysinen aktiivisuus on v\u00e4hentynyt. Fyysisesti aktiivisella tavalla kuljettu koulumatka on osa p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4ist\u00e4 fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta. On t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 mitk\u00e4 tekij\u00e4t ovat yhteydess\u00e4 aktiivisesti kuljettuun koulumatkaan, jotta fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta voidaan sen avulla lis\u00e4t\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 7. ja 8. luokkalaisten tytt\u00f6jen ja poikien koulumatkan kulkutapaan yhteydess\u00e4 olevia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4, kuten oppilaiden nukkumistottumuksia ja aamupalan sy\u00f6mist\u00e4.\n\nK\u00e4ytimme tutkimusaineistona Liikkuva koulu -ohjelmasta saatua aineistoa, joka ker\u00e4ttiin\n4.\u20139.-luokkalaisilta oppilailta syyslukukaudella 2010. Poistimme aineistosta alakoululaiset ja yhdeks\u00e4sluokkalaiset, joten otokseksi muodostui 1073 seitsem\u00e4s- ja kahdeksasluokkalaisen oppilaan aineisto seitsem\u00e4st\u00e4 yl\u00e4koulusta ymp\u00e4ri Suomea. Poikia oli 530 (49 %) ja tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 543 (51 %). Oppilaista 527 (49 %) oli seitsem\u00e4sluokkalaisia ja 546 (51 %) oli kahdeksasluokkalaisia. K\u00e4ytimme aineiston tilastolliseen analysointiin IBM SPSS Statistics 20 -ohjelmaa. Aineiston kuvailemiseen k\u00e4ytimme frekvenssej\u00e4, keskiarvoja ja keskihajontoja. Koulumatkaliikunnan yhteytt\u00e4 nukkumistottumuksiin ja aamupalan sy\u00f6ntiin tarkastelimme ristiintaulukoinnin avulla. Tilastollista merkitsevyytt\u00e4 arvioitaessa k\u00e4ytimme \u03c7\u00b2-yhteensopivuustesti\u00e4 (Khii-neli\u00f6testi) ja merkitsevyyden raja-arvoa p<.05. \n\nTutkimus osoitti, ett\u00e4 yl\u00e4koulun 7. ja 8. luokkalaisista koulumatkan fyysisesti aktiivisella tavalla kulki 57 prosenttia oppilaista. Kahdeksan tuntia tai enemm\u00e4n unta saavia poikia aineistossa oli 78 prosenttia ja tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 85 prosenttia. Lis\u00e4ksi pojista 63 prosenttia ja tyt\u00f6ist\u00e4 58 prosenttia s\u00f6i aamupalan p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4in. Yl\u00e4koulun 7. ja 8. luokkalaisilla merkitsevin koulumatkatapaan yhteydess\u00e4 oleva tekij\u00e4 oli matkan pituus. L\u00e4hell\u00e4 koulua asuvat oppilaat kulkivat koulumatkansa aktiivisemmin kuin kauempana asuvat oppilaat. Nukkumaanmenoajalla ja koulumatkaliikunnalla ei n\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt olevan yhteytt\u00e4. Aktiivisesti koulumatkan kulkevat oppilaat her\u00e4siv\u00e4t my\u00f6hemmin kuin passiiviset ik\u00e4toverinsa. Her\u00e4\u00e4misajoilla oli tilastollisesti eritt\u00e4in merkitsev\u00e4 yhteys tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 ja merkitsev\u00e4 yhteys pojilla. Koulumatkaliikunnalla ja aamupalan sy\u00f6nnill\u00e4 ei ollut tilastollista merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4. Fyysisesti aktiivisesti koulumatkan kulkevat pojat kokivat aamuv\u00e4symyst\u00e4 harvemmin kuin passiivisesti kulkevat pojat. Tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 n\u00e4ytti olevan samansuuntainen yhteys, mutta tulos ei ollut tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4. \n\nAlle viiden kilometrin p\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 koulusta asuvien 7. ja 8. luokkalaisten oppilaiden ryhm\u00e4ss\u00e4 olisi paljon potentiaalia fyysisesti aktiivisen koulumatkan kulkutavan lis\u00e4\u00e4miselle. Noin nelj\u00e4sosa t\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen oppilaista kulki matkansa moottoriajoneuvolla vaikka he asuivat alle viiden kilometrin p\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 koulusta. Fyysisesti aktiiviset oppilaat kokivat t\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen mukaan aamuv\u00e4symyst\u00e4 harvemmin kuin fyysisesti passiiviset ik\u00e4toverinsa. Commuting to school could be a significant part of adolescents\u2019 daily physical activity. It is important to find out what factors contribute to the choice of commuting physically actively or inactively in order to increase the amount of physically active commuters. The purpose of this study was to find out what factors are in relation with commuting to school and how commuting to school relates to sleeping habits and breakfast eating in seventh and eighth grade Finnish students. \n\nThis study was a part of the Finnish Schools on the Move action program. The analyzed data was collected in the autumn of 2010, and comprised of 1073 seventh and eighth grade students from seven middle schools around the country. The study included 530 (49 %) boys and 543 (51 %) girls. Of these students 527 (49 %) were seventh and 546 (51 %) were eighth graders. The data was analyzed using IBM SPSS statistics 20 \u2013program. Frequencies, means and standard deviations were used to describe the data and the relation between commuting to school and sleeping habits and breakfast eating was examined using cross-tabulation. The statistical significance of the relation was studied using Chi-squared distributing with a significance limit value of p<.05. \n\nIn this study 57 percent of the students commuted to school in a physically active way, and 78 percent of boys and 85 percent of girls slept at least eight hours per night. Also, 63 percent of boys and 58 percent of girls ate breakfast daily. The most significant factor in relation to commuting was the distance of travel. Students living closer to school commuted in a physically active manner more often than those living further away. Students commuting in a physically active way woke up later than their peers who commuted inactively. Boys commuted physically actively reported experiencing morning fatigue less frequently than those who commuted inactively. Girls\u2019 results were similar, even though they weren\u2019t statistically significant. Commuting and the time students went to sleep or if they ate breakfast weren\u2019t statistically significantly in relation. \n\nIn the group of seventh and eighth grade students who lived no further than 5 kilometers away from school, there is a lot of potential in increasing physically active commuting. Every fourth student that lived no further than five kilometers away from school reported commuting inactively. According to this study physically active commuters experienced morning fatigue less frequently than those that commuted inactively. Fatigue can have a negative effect on learning and behavior in school. This might cause disturbances in students\u2019 academic achievement.
