Tutkielmassa tutkittiin haastattelujen avulla opettajien ajatuksia pragmaattisen kompetenssin luonteesta, oppijan ominaisuuksista sek\u00e4 opettajan roolista oppijan pragmaattisen kompetenssin saavuttamisessa. Lis\u00e4ksi haluttiin selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 opetetaanko pragmaattisia periaatteita luokassa, ja mit\u00e4 menetelmi\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en. Lopuksi haastateltavilta kysyttiin heid\u00e4n mielipiteit\u00e4\u00e4n pragmaattisen kompetenssin arvioimisesta. \r\n\r\nPragmaattinen kompetenssi on suhteellisesen uusi tutkimuskohde kielen oppimisen ja opettamisen saralla. Sit\u00e4 on aiemmissa tutkimuksista tutkittu enimm\u00e4kseen oppijoiden n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta, mist\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 t\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkielmaan kohderyhm\u00e4ksi valittiin opettajat. Tutkimuksen aineistona oli kuusi puolistrukturoitua teemahaastattelua. Haastateltavat olivat englanninopettajia yl\u00e4koulusta, lukiosta ja yliopiston kielikeskuksesta. Haastattelut nauhoitettiin ja litteroitiin, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen aineisto analysoitiin aneistol\u00e4ht\u00f6ist\u00e4 sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysia k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en. \r\n\r\nTutkielman tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 opettajat tiesiv\u00e4t k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n tasolla mit\u00e4 pragmaattinen kompetenssi tarkoittaa. Heill\u00e4 oli kuitenkin vaikeuksia nimet\u00e4 tarkemmin pragmaattisia periaatteita, ja he olivat ep\u00e4varmoja siit\u00e4, miten pragmatiikan opetus voitaisiin tuoda k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n tasolle luokkatilanteessa.
