Sosiokulttuurinen oppimisteoria, joka toimii t\u00e4m\u00e4n pro gradu -tutkielman taustateoriana, painottaa vanhempien ja lapsen v\u00e4lisen vuorovaikutuksen sek\u00e4 oppijan tekijyyden t\u00e4rkeytt\u00e4 oppimisessa.\n\nVanhempien tuesta tehdyt tutkimukset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 vanhempien tuki on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 ja hy\u00f6dyllist\u00e4 lastensa oppimisessa etenkin motivaation ja koulumenestyksen kannalta. Vanhempien tukea lastensa kielten oppimisessa ei ole Suomessa kuitenkaan tutkittu. \n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, miten vanhemmat tukevat 5./6.-luokalla olevien lastensa englannin ja saksan kielen oppimista. Vanhempien k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 kartoitettiin yhdeks\u00e4n puolistrukturoidun teemahaastattelun avulla. Haastattelut nauhoitettiin ja litteroitiin, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen aineisto analysoitiin aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin sek\u00e4 tekijyyden analyysin keinoin. Analyysiosuudessa selvitettiin vanhempien k\u00e4ytt\u00e4mi\u00e4 tukimuotoja, mahdollisia eroja tuessa englannin ja saksan v\u00e4lill\u00e4 sek\u00e4 vanhempien, lapsen ja opettajan tekijyytt\u00e4 lapsen oppimisessa.\n\nTutkimustulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 vanhemmat tukivat lapsiaan monin eri tavoin. Vanhemmat pitiv\u00e4t sanojen kysely\u00e4 sek\u00e4 kotil\u00e4ksyiss\u00e4, kieliopissa ja kokeisiin valmistautumisessa tapahtuvaa auttamista perinteisin\u00e4 tuenmuotoina. Kaikki vanhemmat eiv\u00e4t kokeneet tukevansa lapsensa kielenoppimista, mik\u00e4li he tukivat jollakin toisella tapaa, esim. tarjoamalla mahdollisuuksia autenttisiin kielenk\u00e4ytt\u00f6tilanteisiin sek\u00e4 kotimaassa ett\u00e4 ulkomaan lomamatkoilla. Vanhemmat pitiv\u00e4t t\u00f6idens\u00e4 ja englannin yleisyyden takia englannin osaamista t\u00e4rke\u00e4mp\u00e4n\u00e4 kuin saksan. Siit\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 he my\u00f6s tukivat englannin oppimista enemm\u00e4n. Englantia k\u00e4ytettiin ja kuultiin kotona saksaa enemm\u00e4n. Saksankielist\u00e4 oppimateriaalia l\u00f6ytyi kotoa my\u00f6s v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n.\n\nVanhempien tekijyys n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyi monella tapaa. Vanhemmat olivat aktiivisia tukijoita lastensa oppimisessa. Vanhempien ajatukset heid\u00e4n tukensa hy\u00f6dyllisyydest\u00e4 edistiv\u00e4t heid\u00e4n tekijyytt\u00e4ns\u00e4, kun taas vanhempien kielitaidottomuus, koettu osaamattomuus tuen suhteen ja ajanpuute haittasivat sit\u00e4. Lasten tekijyys oli itsen\u00e4ist\u00e4, yhteisty\u00f6t\u00e4 kaipaavaa tai vastustavaa. Itsen\u00e4iset lapset eiv\u00e4t kokeneet tarvitsevansa vanhempiensa apua eiv\u00e4tk\u00e4 usein pyyt\u00e4neet sit\u00e4, kun taas yhteisty\u00f6t\u00e4 kaipaavat lapset toimivat p\u00e4invastoin. Vastustavat lapset torjuivat vanhempien tarjoaman tuen. Vanhemmat eiv\u00e4t puhuneet opettajan tekijyydest\u00e4 haastatteluissa paljoakaan.
